When I checked-in to this restaurant on Foursquare, it was classified as a Dim Sum restaurant, and I thought that was odd, given the menu I had seen online being what I'd describe as "New American cuisine."
As I waited, I saw dishes being passed "dim sum" style but nothing asian about this. This restaurant's food is nothing short of heavenly.
A word to the wise: Make a reservation. We walked-in at 7 and were told we would be seated at 930. We were seated closer to 10. As a party of two who had lots to talk about, this was no problem, but a lot of people wouldn't want to wait as long as we did.
It was absolutely worth it. Wines by the glass was the only thing slightly disappointing. If anyone working at this restaurant is reading this, the only recommendation I would make is to bring on a Sommelier who could work with the Chef to make wine pairings to this out of the world food.
Their signature dish (fried quale) was like a Gourmet KFC: The right amount of greasiness and addictively simple flavour that just makes you want to eat a whole bucket of it. My mouth just watered as I remembered it from last night.
If you are visiting this restaurant from out of town, keep in mind that the area is still sketchy. There was a shooting a few blocks down right after I finished my dinner. Absolutely no reason to avoid what is undoubtably the best restaurant I've experienced in SF to date.
