“Great Place to Walk Your Dog, or Just Walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

You'no doubt read it by now this is the place for off leash dog walking in the bay area. If you have a socialized hound bring them here for a good time. Even if you're not a dog owner this is a nice place for a walk and with a little effort you can get away from the dog packs, just walk north on the beach. Beautiful every season of the year. Lots of wildflowers and views of the sea.

“Don't bring your young children or small dogs!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012

It's nice to have an off-leash dog place, but be prepared. Don't expect every dog to be well behaved. Most are, but there's a good chance that unprovoked, an aggressive dog with an irresponsible owner will bother your child or small dog and then the owner will yell at you for having the gaul to bring your child or small dog to this spot. That is what happened to us. God forbid you should actually try to protect your child or small dog from their dog. "Rover is just playing" they'll say as their dog sinks his teeth in (that didn't actually happen). The posted sign says that dogs are allowed off leash "if under control of the owner." This is clearly not the case for all of the dogs/owners. So don't bring a small dog or small child unless you are prepared for a possible trip to the vet or ER and a balling out by some selfish owner of an out-of-control dog. It only takes one.

If you don't want to let a dog run off leash, there are plenty of much nicer places - just about every other beach in the area really. Some relatives recommended Funston to us for a nice walk. Really bad choice - but since they have a dog I guess it was the only place they ever went and therefore the only one they knew to suggest. Unless you've got a big dog that can hold his own and you want to let him off leash, look for some other place.

“Hang Gliders”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

Loved watching the hang gliders jump off the cliff & soar back and forth above us! That was the main attraction for me although there is much more of interest there like the sandy trails where you can even spot the GG bridge, the view northward of the coast toward the windmills, Cliffhouse & the south toward Daly City, the history of the bunkers, etc. Go when
you know the weather at the ocean beaches is sunny & clear & be prepared for the wind. The pelicans & hawks soaring overhead added to the experience.
