We hit Dobb's Ferry, early on a Sunday night, when no productions were on at any of the venue's at the Civic Centre. We had wandered there from a nearby B/B and at that time were clueless about Hayes Valley diners and what they offered. We accidently entered Dobb's Ferry by its side door (not realizing that a filled bar area was in full swing just around the corner on Hayes). It looked like a table might be free. To our good fortune, few guests meant lots of attention from the maitre d' and our waiter, who directed us through sharing a selection of superb appetizers, a main dish, and delightful desert. They also encouraged pairing glasses of wine the different parts of our meal. What a joy that was!!!! . For us, it was a perfect dining experience, and a perfect welcome to San Francisco and to Hayes and its gastronimic pleasures.
Every dish we had at Dobb's Ferry was exquisite. and had not there been so many places to sample over our six evenings of dining at Hayes, we could have happily eaten there every night. No fault of Dobbs or the people who served us, all were perfect. We have made our selves a promise to return. The staff was admant that we reserve well ahead for an Opera, Symphony or Ballet night.
