“Just wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

After having stayed at a number of the chain Hotels, it was a very pleasant change to stay at Marines Memorial. Location - excellent, short walk to the main city. Room - stayed in a 2xQ bed room, very comfortable, good size. Free wifi in your room as well as a very nice business centre with free printing. Free washer/dryer - great for when you are the road for a while. Breakfast included in the rate - great start to the day. Happy hour 4p-6pm - great after a busy day. Staff - very friendly and accommodating. Rooms cleaned to a high standard. A/C not noisy. Cannot fault. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We were on the 5th floor facing the road, no issues at all.

We were lucky that the military rate was $99/night, otherwise you have to be a member and it was about $259/night. In a great location; just an 8-10 minute car ride to the pier, and walking around there are plenty of restaurants. Our room had nice high ceilings, comfy robes, and a fridge. I had read a TripAdvisor tip about using the carafe in the room to get filtered water (located in the hallway), and it turned out to be very useful! Take advantage of it. We weren't there long enough to get our free happy hour cocktail, but there is a lounge (fancy dress). Breakfast you can get to-go or sit and eat. They have a great hot buffet plus so much more!

Ideal location about a couple of blocks from Union Square. If you are in the armed forces and active duty, you can sign up for the membership at the hotel (at no cost), and they will apply the active duty rate for your stay. In order to receive the reduced rate, you have to book within 21 days within your desired check-in.

The room we had was really nice and spacious. Better than what we were expecting! It was a corner room on the 8th floor. The views we had were very nice. The queen sized bed was so comfortable we did not want to leave. Bathrooms are big and come with plush bathrobes. Small fridge and keurig also in the room. Hot breakfast comes with the price, on the 12th floor with a great view of the city. There is also a daily cocktail hour from 4-6pm every day. If you have time, try and visit each floor as there is memorabilia dedicated to the armed forces. One floor is dedicated to those who passed away while serving. Definitely something to see. We did not experience any loud noises as some reviewers have mentioned.

The front desk associates were extremely helpful in giving us tips and recommendations especially when trying to use the cable cars. As any major city goes, parking is expensive. If you have a vehicle, they are partnered with a garage a couple of steps down from them at a reduced rate. They will add this price to your hotel bill.

Would definitely stay here again if we visit San Francisco.

Room Tip: our corner suite was lovely. on the 8th floor

Spent two nights and the hotel was a different kind of place we have stayed. Very near to Union Square so good location. Room was reasonable, clean but with a very small bathroom. Good selection of TV channels which the kids were pleased about. The restaurant is on the 12th floor overlooking the city and 4-6pm every day you get free cocktails, or beer, spirits or wine in this place. Breakfast was excellent and the service was very good. Mainly operated by ex marines from I could see and you get a high volume of ex or service personnel using the hotel, as they get it cheap. We dined with about 10 1 star Generals and one 3 star General for our last breakfast. The hotel doubles as a US Marine museum but we booked it mainly for value vs location

Room Tip: Use the 4-6pm free drinks with views across the city on the 12th Floor

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel, the location is excellent, really close to Union square and a 10 - 15 minute walk from the centre. Our room was large and clean and was on the 6th floor, facing the main street and next to the elevator and we weren't bothered by much noise at all. The Hotel does look a bit tired and is not luxurios but the history of the place is fantastic and the lobby is grand.
The breakfast was good, although if you arrived after 8:30am you had to wait 20 - 30 minutes but there was always a place to sit and have a coffee and read the paper and we were never in a rush so that was fine.
The service was excellent especially the concierge Troy James who moved our bags for us and got us taxi's etc, nothing was too much trouble and he was really friendly and welcoming!
The bull dogs that live at the Hotel were fab too, I loved meeting them when they were going out for their walks!

Room Tip: Select a room on a higher floor, away from any street noise

Arrived here and were only spending the night. Good location for Union Square and adjacent parking had very good rates for San Fran. Happy hour was fantastic - free drinks from 5-7pm when we stayed there. Room was adequate and clean but our room was a little noisy due to the refuse collection although our friends who also stayed at the same time had a very quiet night. Breakfast was excellent with omelettes made to your own personal taste but a very friendly chef. Staff were friendly although we had little need to ask for any help.

Room Tip: An inside room would be quieter

We spent 5 nights in August in a 3rd floor corner room. Room size was very good but you might like a higher floor if street noises worry you. The service from all the staff was excellent, and the freebies of breakfast and 2 hour happy hour each evening added to the overall attraction of this hotel.
Only a short 5-10 minute stroll to Union Square/Powell St trams and major shops such as Macy's and Westfield complex. Plenty of bus public bus routes close by that will get you throughout SF also. Good restaurants such as Johns Grill and Sears an easy stroll.
The hotel is full of memorability celebrating the US Marine's history and they certainly show great pride in that.
Book early as hotel fills quickly, a sure sign of its popularity.

Room Tip: Corner King rooms are large, but ask for higher levels if light sleeper
