“An Intimate Boutique Hotel in the Heart of the City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

A comparison between a quaint European hotel with this charming San Francisco boutique hotel is easy to make by the guests who visit the Inn at the Opera. The staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms are comfortable, some rather small, with beds that are better than being at home. The highlight of this visit was dinner at Plaj. Our meals were excellent and the service even better. We will definitely be back.

Very nice hotel with great staff who were very helpful. Its an older hotel but clean. The front desk staff went above and beyond to make our stay a pleasant one. Rooms are a little small but it didn't matter to us because we were out all day and only slept there. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I would definately stay here again!!! Thank You to the entire staff for their excellent hospitality!

Room Tip: Rooms next to the elevator are bigger than the rooms in the back.

If you are looking to escape the corporate experience and receive a little more personal service then this is your place. Sean and the team make a great effort to ensure you are happy. The room in our first week was small and had very limited space for luggage or clothing so it wasn't great. But with Sean's help we then had a larger room when we returned and were very happy. Breakfast was good, and staffed by very friendly and helpful folks who offer a fine welcome in the morning. The cookies in the afternoon add the personal touch and make you feel comfortable in this 'downtown' hotel. A great choice!

Room Tip: Brits - If you don't know SF, ask for advice about the local area as it can be 'dodgy' o...

Loved our smaller hotel in Hayes Valley. Walking distance to cute stores, a variety of restaurants, nice used book stores, the trolley and the civic center. Our group used rooms 44 and 62. 44 had a second bath and a door to the sitting room so two couples could stay comfortably. As an older property there is probably less insulation but we weren't disturbed. All the staff were helpful--just recall Dan's and Art's names. Nice comp. food in the am that didn't consist of all carbs like some chains.

Room Tip: Suites like 62 have a nice sitting room If you don't need a second bath. Room 44 could hold gran...

The staff were great and attentive. The room had 2 large bathrooms with one bedroom and a separate sitting area with a pull out sofa bed, so we had plenty of space. The location was great with many shops and restaurants in walking distance. We would recommend this hotel to others and would definitely stay here again!

I chose this property mainly due to tripadvisor recommendations. The hotel was much better than I expected. Although the room was a bit small, it was very serviceable. Temperature was fine, bathroom was clean and had plenty of room, and the bed was comfortable. My only minor issue was that there were foam pillows, and I prefer feather. The location is great also. If you have a car, parking on the street within a block was easy. I didn't have to pay $28 valet fee. Also, the location is only one block from Van ness street and close to the freeway. One more thing is that I was able to use my AAA card for a very decent rate discount. Overall I would definitely return to the Inn at the Opera.

We have stayed here many times since 2009 and will continue to stay in the future. The recent update to the restaurant is wonderful. The Breakfast that is included with the room is one of my favorite parts of staying there. It includes muffins, croissants, coffee cakes, hard boiled eggs, bagels, toast, cream cheese, tomatoes, dry cereal, oatmeal, fresh fruit, coffee, assorted teas, and juices. Each room has a little refrigerator, sink, microwave, and dishes. Just right for storing and heating up the yummy leftovers from the amazing restaurants near by. The staff is very helpful and friendly. There are cookies at the front desk and always a smile and kind greeting. It feels very safe and is close to the opera house, symphony, library, and next to the SF School of Ballet.

Room Tip: The Boxing Room restaurant one block away was very good. I also love Arlequin with it's quaint...
