“Great Location, Staff, Health Club”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

We stay here on our transitions through the city. Perfect location to walk everywhere, from the Ferry Building, to North Beach or even a Whole Foods.

When we arrive jet-lagged from somewhere we first hit the steam room in the health club in the ground floor of the hotel. Great to be in a robe and take an elevator straight down. When we are ready for a work-out the health club is great. While the pool is way to chlorinated for us, the equipment is plentiful and first rate. Massage, salon etc are part of the health club.

The rooms are Four Seasons standard which is generally excellent. However the food is also Four Season style meaning eat somewhere else if you can. This is a BLT place when there are an infinite variety of great eating places throughout the city. For location, steam, work out, great rooms and staff stay here. Eat somewhere else.

Best rooms face the Bay Bridge.

Room Tip: Bay view, above 9th floor.

We has such a great time here that my kids complained when few months later we had to stay at another 5 star hotel in union Square. One of them said:"Great hotel mom but not as child friendly as Four Seasons!" Thanks a lot for getting my kids hooked!

When you book a FS hotel you know you are going to have a nice experience. We certainly had a nice time at this FS in the heart of SFO.
We spent 4 wonderful nights and appreciated the large rooms. I usually end up at a small hotel with small rooms in SFO. The FS is comfortable, clean, well kept and feels like SFO.
The lobby is grand in a subtle way. The décor is welcoming and not too pretentious.
One of the most wonderful benefits of staying at the FS is having room service at silly hours. Pancakes and eggs at 2am makes me smile.

San Francisco is a beautiful city and it was lovely to stay in a hotel that caters to the upscale feeling of the area. The staff were awesome and very attentive. We did not like the layout of the hotel, but other than that everything was great.

If you want an experience while visiting San Francisco that will leave you wanting to come back, you must stay at the Four Seasons San Francisco. The rooms are spacious, impeccibly clean and large. The facility is wonderful and the service is there at every level. The staff was genuine and always there to help. I wish we had more time because we did not want to leave. We found ourselves wanting to stay in instead of out and about San Francisco. A must stay.

The Four Season San Francisco is very understated and elegant. It is such a pleasure to come off of Market Street into the serenity of this hotel. You do have to take an elevator to the main lobby, but it is not a big deal. The staff is very professional and helpful. The valet service was very fast and the concierge offered some great and interesting lunch places.
Our first trip to this hotel was years ago. We staying in the lowest price category and were unimpressed with a lackluster room. This trip we booked a higher price category. Our room was on a corner with amazing views and floor to ceiling window on two sides. It was really one of the best views I have had in San Francisco, plus the room was enormous. The bed was super comfortable, there was even an dressing room.
We paid for the bed and breakfast package, thank goodness as the room service breakfast is really expensive. The quality was very high and there was good selection for breakfast. For dinner that is another story. We went to order roomservice dinner, and the selection was extremely limited and uninteresting, especially for food crazy San Francisco. It was basically sandwiches, hamburgers and chicken wings. The main restaurant was closed for remodeling so we ended up walking to Westfield Mall and picking up sushi to go. To be fair, there are so many great restaurants close by, perhaps very few guests order room service dinner here.
The only other downside was the bathroom. Although roomy, it definitely was dated with a really small bathtub. It was not up to the standard of the rest of the room.
Overall it is a super hotel, but you should not go with lowest category room.

Room Tip: A corner room is great.

Hotel is slightly overpriced but it offers a trouble free stay, comfortable and quiet rooms, good service and excellent location close to great shopping area and restaurants. I would prefer a buffet breakfast rather than a la carte which is expensive and limits choice. Special thanks to the Front Desk who allowed me to keep the room for extra 90 mins which enabled me to prepare better for a long overseas trip ahead. I would return to the Four Seasons.
