The hotel was in a great downtown location (on Market, 2 minutes from Westfield), right in the centre and close to all transport links for the city. The interior lobbies and lounges had a spacious, elegant feel, like stepping out of the bustle into order and calm.
We had an Executive Suite on the 17th floor for our 3-day stay, visiting relatives. It was a spacious area with stunning views across the city towards the Bay in the distance. Our two daughters had one room (with a double sofa bed) and we had the other adjoining room (with a king-size bed) which included the bathroom. The suite was well-appointed, extremely clean and (because of the enormous picture windows in both rooms) very light and airy. The bathroom was to die for. A nice touch was the bowl of fruit and the personalised ‘Welcome’ card from the hotel manager.
We didn’t eat in the hotel (other than a ‘room service’ breakfast, on one of the mornings) but we used the lounge for afternoon tea, pre-dinner drinks and late evening nightcaps. It was a very pleasant space in which to sit and relax, and the staff were extremely (but not annoyingly) attentive.
We used the Health Club on one occasion. It was very well-equipped (with a reasonable-sized pool) and on two floors. However, we felt it was more like a city fitness centre than a part of the hotel, so we didn’t feel sufficiently relaxed there – especially compared with all the other club members, who were taking it very seriously!
We were particularly impressed with the staff in the hotel. From the Chambermaid to the Concierge, every member of staff we encountered was polite, friendly and made us feel a welcome guest. Nothing appeared too much trouble and a call to Reception produced a knock on the door within five minutes.
We did feel that, given the cost of the accommodation, WiFi in the room could have been provided free of charge. We also felt that tea/coffee-making facilities could have been provided in the room. Yes, it was a simple matter to pick up the phone and order it from room service, but we would have preferred the flexibility and immediacy of doing it ourselves.
Although the hotel was expensive, we felt it represented good value for money because of the quality of the service and accommodation it provided.
