“gorgeous hotel, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

Stayed here with my husband and 2 teenage children. Lovely hotel, immaculate, clean and gorgeous decor, very well kept property. We stayed 2 nights, hotel located in downtown but within walking distance of shopping, cable car, Ferry building and Embarcadero. Rooms spacious, well equipped, spotless and a very comfy bed. Bathroom also very clean, plenty toiletries and large. all staff very helpful, polite and cheery. Oldest daughter used the gym and found everything she needed equipment wise and plenty of towels and water provided.
Only downside was no real place to sit in main lobby, seated area very small. Did not have breakfast in hotel ate in places nearby. doorman can point you in right direction.

We stay in San Francisco weekly and so we know the city well. We decided to stay at the Omni for "something new". After two stays here (and the next one already booked), we already feel like this is our new downtown home away from home. From Darryl the amazing doorman, to the posh and very European decor...this place is lovely top to bottom. For the price, this feels like a much nicer hotel (5 star all the way). Lots of little extras, beautifully kept up property and a cozy bar or very swank chop house for dinner. I cannot think of a single thing we do not love abou tthis place and the location is spot on as well.

My husband and I stayed at the Omni this past weekend. The downtown location was great. We had a car as we were visiting family nearby but lots of public transportation options (cable car ran right in front of hotel). Parking is pricey; $60 per night ($37 on Friday and Saturday) for valet but this is comparable to what other hotels downtown charge. The staff were friendly and helpful with directions if needed. The room was a little small but was fine for the two of us. The bed was comfortable. No free wi-fi in rooms was a downer. The restaurant in the lobby had good breakfast, a little pricey though.

My wife and I enjoyed celebrating our 30th anniversary with a night at this beautiful hotel. The staff is wonderful, the rooms are spotless, the location is great. A couple of minor issues keeps me from giving 5 stars. The first issue: The Omni Hotel has a great feature when you reserve online, the ability to check in early online, thereby forgoing needing to check in at the registration desk. This is a great feature that I hope more hotels will get on board with. When you check in early online, you are sent an email which instructs you that there is a board in the lobby which will have your name on an envelope. Just take your envelope and proceed to your room. Having arrived at the hotel after a full day, we were eager to bypass the registration desk. As we entered the lobby I was scanning the room to find the board. Unfortunately you can't see it from the lobby entrance. So what else can you do but walk toward the registration desk. Bummer. The board does exist, and does have your name on an envelope, unfortunately the board hangs on the backside of a huge pillar, and faces the registration employees. So, the nice lady at the desk asked for my identification, asked a few pleasant questions and then gave us our envelope. All in all it was only a couple of minutes, but, they could have really impressed if there was board in plain view, near the registration desk that you could actually walk right up to, find your envelope and then proceed to your room. Next, our bigger issue: the price of in room dining. When we arrived in our room we did what everyone does - check out the bathroom! The bathroom was clean, nicely decorated, big bars of soap, and prominently displayed on the counter, two bottles of water - $7.00 each. Yikes. Now there's a message - our room rates are reasonable, but we will nail you with the water and mini bar. I mean come on $7 for a bottle of water that in many hotels is complimentary. The water wasn't even from Figi or any other exotic locale. It did say though on the bottle, "smooth and velvety". I've never had velvety water that I know of. I was curious, but not $7 curious - so I still don't know velvety water. Having had a long day, my wife and I decided we would prefer to not dine out, but to dine in. So we decided to share a meal. We ordered the 16oz steak and ceasar salad. One of each. No wine, no soda, no dessert. Just two plates of food - 1 steak, one salad...$80.80. Again, we have in-room dined all over the world the past 30 years. BTW we did drink a can of Coke, a bottle of beer, and a mini bar size of wine = $37. This was easily the priciest in room food we've ever encountered. So, I heartily recommend the Omni, but dine in at high prices, and if you do the early online check in - proceed from the front door down the stairs, about 20 feet ahead on your left will be a large wooden pillar - on the back side is the board with your envelope. Have a great stay!

Got a great package deal on SW airlines for air and hotel. Wanted some luxury in a great city for a bowl game. Took the BART into town and walked 4 blocks to the Hotel. This place is close to everything!

The Lobby is incredible! An old bank, the finishes and wood make it a very special place. We were lucky and able to check in at 10:30AM. Score! When you stay here, make sure to see what snacks and drinks they have in the lobby. It was a cold day, so there was hot cider and gingerbread cookies! Love the details.

Room - Excellent. Clean, comfortable and all that we expected. Great western view of the street on 6th floor. Quick Elevator too! High Ceilings, so it was comfortable. The walls are a little thin, but nothing serious. We could hear the family staying next door when they left in the AM and you can sometimes hear the doors slam, but it was not a big deal for us.

Bathroom - Pocket door was a space saver! Bathtub/Shower was awesome, looked like new! Clean and spacious.

There is turn town service, so you are welcomed back with your bed ready to go with Ice and bottled water waiting for you. Once bummer was the size of the TV in the room, But no big deal. Good enough for ESPN before heading out on adventures!

We are Omni select guest members, so we get drink service in the AM. A choice of coffee, juices and soft drinks for your morning. AWESOME!

The Staff is very helpful and always are smiling. Wish we could stay another week. First Class Baby! Will be back!

Room Tip: Rooms on the street side get a good breeze and are sunny.

Some reviewers call this a boutique hotel and that is misleading. Omni is very much a large old-world hotel with a grand lobby and very lavish, well-appointed and impeccable rooms. It's also pricey. We traveled as a couple and booked a regular room at a seemingly decent value rate. But valet parking will set you back more than $60 per night, and the staff certainly wasn't forthcoming about nearby options (that are $20 less). Incredibly, in 2013, Omni charges $11 for wifi per day. The little welcome water bottle costing $7 and the positively ludicrous mini bar and room service prices (I expect to pay more but not 3-4 times prices a few blocks away) leave impression of a large enterprise.

For visiting SF as tourists, the seemingly central location is far from ideal, as the Financial District is generally dead at night, and lots of neighboring streets undoubtedly sketchy. We had a nice, stylish and comfortable stay but would have been better off going with a smaller hotel in one of SF's more walkable neighborhoods.

The Omni San Fran is right in downtown, walking distance to China town and the Embarcadero. It is a grand old beauty that has been tastefully restored to the highest standards. The rooms are big and the beds are heavenly. Our check in took all of about 30 seconds. Amazing. The incredible thing was this hotel was the cheapest in the area! We will always return to this hotel when we are in San Francisco... we loved it.

Room Tip: Higher floors have the views.
