“Excellent down-town SF Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2012

Among the many choices to stay in San Francisco, the Omni stood out in the reviews. That prompted me to book a night there for a quick trip my wife and I had planned.

Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by every single hotel staff person we encountered, with offers of help and welcome. This was not done in any overbearing way and felt quite genuine. Our room was on the 14th floor.

The room was very nice, clean, and very quiet. We hadn't opted for a view and indeed were given the opportunity to look into office windows of the three buildings surrounding the alley courtyard behind our side of the hotel. The TransAmerica Building could be seen soaring high above one of them. It was sunny and well-lit, so we weren't disappointed by that.

A little background: Our last hotel, two weeks earlier, had been in Beijing, China. The contrast couldn't have been greater. A 4-star hotel, it looked very fancy at first glance (and from 20 feet away). A closer inspection was almost horrifying. The place was absolutely filthy. In the 8 days we stayed there, our sheets were never changed, the bathroom always smelled like a sewer, and our clean fingernails at night were dirty upon getting up in the morning. The bed must have been made of concrete, and the lock on the entry door didn't work. So by contrast, the Omni was absolutely a wonderful place.

Mind you, this comparison is quite unfair, in that the Omni should not be described with any association with the other hotel. The Omni stands in its own right as a fine hotel, a world-class hotel, with a staff that went out of its way at every opportunity to serve us with a smile and no hesitation.

Location-wise, it is terrific. Sited at the intersection of Montgomery and California, it is about 6-blocks from the Ferry Building, next door to China Town, the California Cable Car runs by the front door, and Nob Hill is just to the west, up the street. All the major cultural and performance centers are within easy walking access and restaurants are all over the place.

We slept soundly, enjoyed the lovely clean, nicely scented bathroom, and comfortable clean (did I say clean?) bed. There was a large safe in the closet and a locking refrigerator where we kept snacks bought at a nearby deli.

I highly recommend the Omni and will stay there again if I have the chance.

The hotel is old but good. Great location, next to Market Street, Chinatown, Financial District and the Ferry Building. It's an easy walk to the cable car or the BART. Service is helpful and the people at the frontdesk were nice. There's no free wifi, which is a downside.

We stayed at the Omni San Francisco in September for our honeymoon and it was fantastic!! We upgraded to the Omni Select which allowed for daily morning beverage selection delivered to the room which was a great way to start the day! It also allowed for WiFi access in the room.
The rooms are very clean and comfortable. All staff went out of their way to make us feel at home, helped us find great places to eat and even booked our trip to Alcatraz for us!
Location is unbeatable!! Public transportation is accessible from right in front of the hotel or within a block away. We would not hesitate to recommended this hotel to anyone! We plan on staying here when we return to San Francisco!

This hotel has mastered making the guests feel pampered. The valet, bell staff, front desk -- all superior. From the cookies and milk each afternoon in our room, to the concierge who walked us outside to show us the wells fargo building and give us some background history on it, before pointing out the cable car stop to us. Anything we asked for arrived in moments.

I cannot think of a hotel that provides this high of a level of customer service with no pretense better than the Omni SF. I am comparing to top hotels such as the Four Seasons Beverly Hills, the Fairmont Plaza NY - customer service at the Omni was superior to hotels in the highest class.

The Cable Cars stop just out front, making the location ideal. Restaurants and chinatown within a very easy walk from this hotel.

My only complaints are very minor ones, and just an FYI for other guests. They will not stop me from booking a room at the Omni every time we travel to San Francisco. I wouldn't even look elsewhere- they were that great!
The small downsides:
The heat/air conditioning was outdated (I think) and loud in it's on and off cycle. Not smooth at all.
The first morning at 8am we could hear the housekeeping knocking on the door next to ours. Over and over. There is little to no soundproofing from the door to the room and this woke us all up unnecessarily.
The parking costs are ridiculously high. This seems to be fairly consistent across the SF hotels, yet doesn't make it more acceptable or palatable.

If you are looking for a great SF experience then look no further than the Omni.

My wife and I stayed for three nights on our recent trip to San Francisco. The rooms are very well appointed and clean, the bed was King size and very comfortable. The location is an easy walk to most parts of town, centrally located with cable car out the front. There are some great places to eat within walking distance in all directions. The staff are very attentive and helpful. We stayed during Halloween so it was great to see the staff get into the spirit by dressing up. Free Wi-Fi in the lobby is a great way to do your research on Trip Advisor to find some great restaurants etc while in town. We will stay again at Omni.

Room Tip: Go King size for the extra it's worth a good night sleep!

The hotel location was perfect and the room was very nice. The best thing about the Omni is the customer service. They are so great. Everyone goes out of their way to be helpful and friendly. My daughter was given a backpack with lots of great treats. Cookies and milk were waiting in the room for her. I cant say enough how helpful they were. It was great! I would recomend this hotel to anyone staying in SF. Parking is expensive but that is SF. We are select guest members and were already checked in when we arrived. We got free wifi and free beverage service every morning.
