“Very Comfortable, Convenient Location, Attentive Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed today NEW

The Orchard Hotel - not to be confused with the nearby Orchard Garden Hotel - provides very comfortable, well-maintained accommodation. The hotel conveys an impression that the patron's needs have been anticipated and addressed. The room layouts are spacious, the bathrooms are well-designed and the decor is attractive. Each room provides a comfortable work desk and two sitting chairs. There is plenty of closet and drawer space, and a minibar and refrigerator. The wifi is fast and easy to use.

The hotel staff at the front door and the front desk are friendly, knowledgable and very helpful. The front desk maintains a complimentary supply of the Wall Street Journal and the San Francisco Chronicle.

A parking garage is located half a block downhill on Bush Street, and costs about $35/day. It provides well-lighted, secure parking. The hotel also offers valet parking.

Within a short walk from the hotel are several excellent breakfast and dinner restaurants. The cable car runs up and down Powell Street, at the uphill corner from the hotel's entrance. Chinatown is just a five to ten minute walk downhill on Bush Street, then left. Can't miss it.

The Orchard Hotel provides solid three-star accommodation, and is recommended.

We stayed here for a weekend and enjoyed the location in walking distance from a lot of shopping and great food. It was comfortable, quiet and not too crowded. I would recommend it as a good option close to Union Square.

Would stay here again and have already recommended to others. Breakfast was included with my room package. I tried two different breakfasts off the menu - both were awesome, and service was great too. Staff was helpful. Bed was very comfortable. Room was generally quiet for being downtown.

Okay I'll start by saying that places that recommend you review them on TripAdvisor are often overrated relative to their counterparts that don't mention TripAdvisor. At the front desk they have a sign asking you to rate them on TripAdvisor and they'll plant a tree if you do. So there's a bit of selection bias at work.
Our room was so-so, the TV in it's cabinet was a bit weirdly jammed in the corner of the room. There was no view as we were opposite to Bush St. We could see the art college having classes in the building across the alley. Also in room 402 we found the elevator to be quite loud, though it never disturbed our sleep. The heating/ cooling didn't work until the last day when we came into our room and it was very hot. The bed was extremely comfortable though and there were ample blankets.
Location was great, just out of the main area. I say the hotel is 'relatively pretty decent' because for where it is and it's price you are getting a very good package. One thing that annoyed us was they kept calling to clean our room, though perhaps that's how it works at hotels when you've been in bed till 2pm.
Getting here was a little bit of a hassle, walking up from Montgomery Street station at midnight we were not prepared for the hills. Also beware of the cable car if you're running on a budget. On our second day we were shopping at Market Street and decided to take the cable car up the road to the hotel, once on it we were told the tickets were $6 each one-way, so we ended up staying on to get value for money and checked out the winding Lombard Street.
Service at the hotel was good apart from the cleaning calls, with lots of cheerful staff in the lobby and manning the door. The guy asking if we needed a taxi on our way out after check-in seemed a bit fake and annoyed we weren't getting a taxi. The hotel should encourage people walking/ give lifts to the BART! That would be a big green plus point.

Room Tip: Don't get rooms near the elevator if you're a light sleeper...

Green Features: A separate bin in your room for recycling! Also they do plant a tree if you review them on tripadvisor :)

Good hotel for the location. Staff was fine, I was only there for one night so didn't really ask for much, but they were helpful in what ways they could. Overall, if you are looking to stay in the area, I would reccomend this hotel as a convenient and affordable option.

Went here for a weekend away. Couldn't park outside the hotel so we had instructions that we could go to the parking garage and get a shuttle back, but no one at the garage had a clue about anything. After finally sorting the whole fiasco out we were shuttled back to the hotel. BTW I did not ding them a star for this.

I dinged 1 star because when we went to get our car back out it took 50 minutes causing us to miss our dinner reservations. They state allow 15-20 minutes which we did but when we kept checking there only method was to text or call on a cell phone. Seems they need two way radios, communication was horrible. Also dinged them for poor communication when we checked in. Not what I would deem friendly at all.

The other star goes to dirty carpets and wall paper. Honestly how hard is it to wipe down the wall and shampoo the carpets. I forgo the forgotten snickers wrapper on the floor but the dirty, not stained carpets is just laziness on their part.

Also part of a ding goes to the illusion that they have dinner available at the restaurant as stated on the website and my email confirmation. They were not open. Also touted a coffee pot in the room which we never found but settled for walking a block to Starbucks, don't bother with the hotel coffee it's horrible and for $3 they should be ashamed for charging this much for instant coffee.

The hotel is in a great location and the room was spacious as well as a comfy bed. So for that they get 3 stars. Price is competitive.

Green Features: This hotel claims to be environmentally friendly but honestly they didn't even have LED lights installed. The water is kept warm with low flow showers and toilets (handle sticks which causes constant running), they should be ashamed.

Immediately we were so happy with the location. The Union Square location is convenient; however, it is a few blocks up from the hustle and bustle and therefore our room was extremely quiet. We often stay in the Union Square area and the noise has been a constant issue. We were so happy to get a quiet restful sleep at The Orchard.

The room was spacious, clean, and accommodated our family of 4 very well (two kids ages 8 and 9). We travel a lot and the kids really enjoyed this room as well.

The best part however, was the amazing staff. I am kicking myself for not getting their names. They went over and beyond to make us feel welcomed and comfortable and always with care and a smile.

When we checked out, we left our bags with the bellman, and headed out for food and shopping. After about 30 minutes I realized I was not wearing my ring and rushed back to the hotel. The bellman immediately said, lets head up to your room and look around. Housekeeping was in the room and she helped me look, unpacking the towels and sheets and shaking them out. I did not find it and realized I must have left it in the car. Once we returned hours later for our bags, the bellman asked me if I had had any luck locating my ring. He reassured me if they found it they would contact me. Luckily it WAS in the car. However, I felt they went over and beyond in trying to help me find it. THANK YOU!!!

We will definitely be back! The location was awesome, our room was great, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.

PLUS, this hotel is extremely environmentally friendly! The list is long for this one!

Green Features: This is a very green hotel!! It has received the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED-EB® (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) certification. It has in room air filter, flush free urinals, low flow toilets, organic, citrus based cleaning products, the list is long!!
