“visiting San Francisco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

We cruised from Vancouver, BC to San Francisco, spent two days in San Francisco at the Holiday Inn Express and caught another cruise ship back to Vancouver. The hotel was very clean, we got there at 9:30 am and were informed that there was a clean room available. We booked about two weeks prior, San Francisco is expensive, have very few hotel vacancies in the Fisherman's Wharf area. We were able to walk from the ship and back to the ship (about 10 blocks, we are 69 and 70) so we saved money there. We used Hop on Hop Off for the two days, loved Sausilito, again very expensive, but we wanted to see it. If you want to go to Alcatraz book online before you get there. It was an excellent week long getaway.

Room Tip: Our room was on the second floor and very quiet.

An older but nice hotel right in the heart of the Financial District. A short trolley ride to Pier 39. Amenities were satisfactory. Very quiet. Close to restaurants and shopping. Parking is expensive but you do not need a car to travel the city, just use a trolley or bus. Ask for a higher room to cut down on the street noise.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor to cut down on street noise.

This was not the Holiday Inn that we were supposed to be accommodated in but it turned out to be satisfactory. We were booked into the Holiday Inn at 1300 Columbus Ave.
That said we are very satisfied with the alternate location as it is closer to Fishermans Wharf by 400-500 metres. The building is relatively new and guest services are good. The security starts with having to scan your room 'key card' to access the elevators.
Rooms are well appointed except for a small fridge keep milk for tea/coffee as we dislike the creamer powder supplied. The bathroom is efficient, with modern fittings.
The queen size beds are comfortable even for a 6ft 3in bloke, although we had requested a king bed room.
The location is great if you want to be right at Fishermans Wharf, San Francisco. It is a 'tourist trap' to a degree, if you want to see lots in a couple of days then it is the best location. The tour bus companies have offices within 2 blocks of the hotel. The nearest SFMTA Cable Car terminus is one block behind the hotel (this assumes that you consider the Beach Street entrance the front of the hotel) at intersection of Taylor St and Bay St.
You can walk to the famous Fishermans Wharf and then view the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, Angel Island and the Bay Bridge.

Room Tip: This is a big, new complex and you should ask for a room close to the elevator.

Accommodations were excellent. Room had been updated. Quiet, very convenient location just a few blocks to the Wharf.
Breakfast was VERY busy, but food was great. No hot waffles to be made, like most Holiday Inns, but plenty of other things to eat.
Another Holiday Inn was right next door. This one had a better exercise room. Concierge was very helpful.
Parking price was average at $55.00 per night plus tax.

Loved this location. I arrived very late via airport shuttle not a holiday inn shuttle. The hotel was perfectly located 2 blocks from fishermans warf. So close that we returned to the room several times to drop off shopping bags, have a rest or freshen up. Great breakfast in the morning that held us until we found a place for early dinner on the warf. My friends loved it so much they actually went back to this hotel on their way back from driving the coast. I usually get a higher floor room but this time we had a street level room, I feared the noise would rouse a light sleeper (me) but it didn't. quiet, very clean room.

Room Tip: even street facing is quiet. all rooms were good. I prefer higher floors personally.

The Holiday Inn Express @ Fisherman's Wharf is a decent place to spend the night, The rooms are neat and clean, although the bathroom is quite small and the exhaust fan is noisy. The bed was comfortable and the hotel was quiet enough at night, that we were able to sleep well. The staff was courteous and friendly, check-in was a breeze! You do pay for parking here, but that is San Francisco for you; you pay to park anywhere. The hotel is centrally located in the Fisherman's Wharf tourist area, everything is in walking distance (our Fitbits loved that!); and there are several bus tours that are based right around the corner. Our only complaint was the Continental Breakfast, even though it was well stocked with a variety of breakfast items, the hot food (under food lamps no less) was cold - so our first breakfast was a cold omelette and cold biscuits and gravy. Very disappointing. Fortunately there are dozens of restaurants in the area, and you have a wide range of options to choose from.
