“Not for families ”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2014

Positives are location and breakfast.

Negatives are no pool, no laundry and small beds. Although hotel will recommend sister properly next door for pool and laundry use, it's actually a block away - who wants to walk that far to the pool?

Recent stay for family of 4 and Contacted front desk re upgrade to family suite however hotel is undergoing upgrade with construction work and some rooms unavailable.

This is really a hotel for the business traveller with free wifi plus the location and the brekkie.

If you are a family, look elsewhere!

You know what you are getting with a holiday inn. Was perfect for our three night stay, walking distance to the tram and the front.
The room was tidy and modern and suited us with the comfortable bed. Is not a hotel for luxury but great f you are wanting somewhere to sleep and fill up on a great breakfast!

We were 2 adults and 3 teenagers (so really the same as 5 adults) staying in the 2 Bed Family Suite (1 room with 2 beds and a sofabed). The room was a generous size and very clean and tidy, however the 2 beds for 4 of us to share were small: a double or queen size. We are not large people (the largest is 6ft tall and 78kgs) but the idea of squashing into small beds together after a long flight was unappealing and disappointing, especially as the room itself was a very generous size and could easily have fitted 2 king sized beds in. We phoned the front desk and voiced our concern and they sent up a rollaway bed free of charge, which helped, but two of us still had to be cramped into a small bed. Again the 2-seater sofabed for the 5th person was also only suitable for 1 person, especially as it dipped in the middle as a lot of sofabeds do.
On a more positive note, the room was very clean and tidy, the bathroom too. The location was great, especially for the price, and we could either easily walk to local attractions or ride the cable cars or buses. Very easy and central. The hotel itself did not have a pool but used the one in the Holiday Inn next door, but that was inconvenient to walk to the end of the street to use the pool if you just wanted a quick swim before dinner or breakfast, especially in the winter!
The free breakfast was a bonus, continental with 2 hot choices, and was a good standard.
If the beds were upgraded to a king size, I would definitely recommend this hotel, particularly if you want convenience and value for money. If we considered staying there again as a party of 5, I would have to consider different room or bed options as it did not suit us.

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in the New Year with my son,its location is perfect as a base to explore San Francisco. Minutes away from the Wharf, street car and cable car stops. Car hire outlets also nearby,.convenient if you want to explore a little further outside the city. Found the hotel to be modern, clean and well maintained, our room was made up daily and fresh towels also..Free self service Breakfast was well presented with a large variety of food on offer an ideal start to our day exploring the city. Staff were polite and helpful. The hotel was undergoing an upgrade during our stay but this was well managed and caused us NO problems whatsoever . Overall a great choice for our needs and would definately stay again if we visit San Francisco in the future.

The Fisherman's Wharf Holiday Inn Express is a generic tourist hotel. If you are looking for charm or luxury, keep looking. However, if you want a comfortable, clean, roomy place to stay while you sample the charms of San Francisco, this is a great choice. Located on North Point, it is just 2 blocks from Fisherman's Wharf and it's plethora of seafood restaurants. It's also just 3 blocks from the legendary Buena Vista Cafe, home of the "original" Irish Coffee and the terminus of one of the trolley car lines. It is competitively priced with the other large hotels in the area and less expensive the the hotels around Union Square.

Room Tip: There are some rooms with a view.

We stayed here on New Years Eve, it's close to Fisherman's Wharf. The hotel charged $45 for parking, most hotel in San Francisco charge parking. The hotel is clean and offerred a free breakfast 6am to 9am. They will give you a call for breakfast, we received two calls. The bed is a l;ittle hard for me. The valet was very nice. He had to get our car out a couple for times. Since we where not going to Fisherman's Wharf for New Years Eve, But he was very quick. The check out time was at 12 noon, which is nice. Exspecially after New Years, Even with check out at 12 noon, the Hotel will let your car stay in there lot until 6pm. which is really nice with the price of parking in San Francisco. Would Recommend this hotel if going to Fishermans Wharf.

Room Tip: No room Service

This hotel is located a short walk from Pier 39 at Fishermans Wharf, we had very good value for money as bought room online through priceline (not knowing till we paid, which hotel it was) so checking their prices we paid about $70 less than advertised. The rooms and bathrooms are spotless, maids were very pleasant always saying hello when they met us. The gym is more than adequate with I think 3 treadmills and other equipment, also spotless. Breakfast is cooked with large choice but unfortunately not enough tables in dining room, but I gather they are building a new dining room at present. The only things I could fault are the price of parking they charge $50 a day, so we put our car in a multi-storey 2 minutes walk away for $30, so worth asking at other garages. There was no fridge in room when we arrived but after calling reception they supplied one immediately at no extra charge. Good choice of channels and films on TV. Elevators were a little scary made a terrible noise but I'm elevator phobic, so this may not bother anyone else.
