“Neat Place To Visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013 via mobile

This is a really neat place to visit. It has a very friendly vibe and some really nest little shops. It is a gay district and some of the flyers posted are a bit risqué as are some items in store fronts, so if you have young children or your religion/values would make you feel uncomfortable with this, you may wish to skip this part of town. Personally, I felt it was a really interesting place to walk through and would love to go back and spend more time there. The people were all really nice there is quite a bit of history in this district.

“A little bit of heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2013

Being in San Francisco one must make time to walk around the Castro. Not only is it a piece of gay history in the U.S., but it is also a place where you find lots to do: bookstores, shops and eateries. We ate at the Castro a couple of time during our short stay in SF and loved the experience. This is what the real world looks like without discrimination or barriers.

“Great vibe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

Love this area. Walking around you get such great positive energy. Tons of shops and dining establishments, not to mention the character and personalities. Don't be surprised if you see a bit of skin from some of the gents...you are in San Francisco and the Castro, what else did you expect? ;)

“Historic & unique”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

The Castro, as a district, seems to have grown a bit since I was last here many years ago. Naturally, of course, since this area has been a mecca for gays & lesbians for several decades now. But the heart of the district is a two-block long stretch of Castro Street, starting at Market. This is where most of the action is, and has occured. Harvey Milk lived here and operated his camera store here (now a HRC location). He gave impassioned speechs at the corner of Market & Castro. There are bars, restaurants, & shops on both sides of the street. Parking is on street, at meters or in 2 hour residential zones. You can take the Castro trolley up Market St from downtown. The MUNI also has stops nearby. While here you should visit the GLBT History Museum on 18th St.
