My wife and I decided to visit the Top of the Mark last Monday evening after dinner and shopping in Union Square (walked up the hill -- only 6-7 blocks but the last block's a killer!). I had stayed at the Mark Hopkins several times before on business but hadn't been to the Top. The crowd was light, as expected on a Monday of a holiday weekend (MLK day), but we were greeted by a friendly hostess who welcomed us and suggested we could sit anywhere we liked. Our server, Robert, appeared out of nowhere and quickly guided us to a terrific corner window seat with views of both bridges. His service was outstanding. We simply had a few cocktails while we talked and enjoyed the views after a long day of sightseeing around town -- and didn't feel rushed in anyway. Just what we needed to end our day. I commend Robert on his exceptional friendliness and service and we recommend the Top of the Mark as a stop on anyone's trip.
