“Comprehensive coverage of Walt Disney's career”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

Gave a good description of Disney's career and the evolution of cartoons/animated movies. Did not elect to pay the extra fee to see the special exhibit on Snow White.

“Interesting and Engaging for Many Ages”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

We visited this museum at the request of my teenage son who loves all things Disney. There were 5 of us, ranging in age from 16 to 82, who all found the museum to be engaging. The presentation walks visitors through the life of Walt Disney showcasing the highs and lows of his career as he became the icon he is known as today. There is animation, film footage, antiques and displays to interest everyone. We spent about 3 hours without seeing the special exhibit. There is, or course, a gift shop and a small cafe. There is pay parking right out front and a pay lot just a block away. They also have a AAA discount for admission.

I think you're be surprized, Find the connection to AP Gianini and on a clear day the view of the Golden Gate Bridge thru the trees of the Presidio is spectacular.

“A Great Tribute to a Great Man”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

This is a very organized, informative, and interesting museum displaying photos and memorabilia of Walt Disney's countless accomplishments but also his family history. Walt was a true pioneer in film, theme parks, etc. His life is laid out chronologically, and the Family History units placed amid his pioneering achievements round out his life in a personal way. You can tell that Diane Disney Miller really loved her dad and was determined to create the best tribute possible to him and his life. We really, really enjoyed this museum!

The museum is in two buildings in the Presidio in North San Francisco on San Francisco Bay. The admission to the Disney Family Museum is $20 ($15 for seniors), and there is an additional $10 charge for the supplemental exhibit about Walt's Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs 1939 movie, the 1st full length animated movie. Unless you are a HUGE, HUGE Snow White fan, I would skip the extra exhibit. However, the 2nd floor of that building has a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

I agree with all the reviewers who say that this museum is not for children. It has interactive exhibits but they are geared to people who are interested in early animation, early film, and Disney family history. Disneyland fans will enjoy the large model of Disneyland which displays not only vintage attractions but newer rides, as well.

We parked on the street in front of the museum and paid $3 for 3 hours of parking. It was enough time, at least for us, to enjoy both museum buildings and the interesting gift shop.

It was disappointing that we could not take photos in any of the galleries...only in the lobbies. The gift shop offers a $35 souvenir book that highlights the best of the museum exhibits, but we passed. The museum is closed on Tuesdays.

I would gladly visit this museum again when returning to San Francisco...I loved it!

“I'm not a huge Disney fan but even I liked it...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

My wife is a huge Disney fan, much more so than me but she finally talked me into take her and our young daughters to the Walt Disney museum. We visited the museum during Thankgiving week while on a leisure trip to San Francisco. The museum is located in a beautiful historic building in the Presidio. The setting is specatcular with beautiful old buildings and great views of the Golden Gate bridge. The museum is full of fascinating artifacts from Walt Disney's life. It has lots of his awards on display, video recordings, drawings, old photos, and letters he wrote. His story is much more interesting than I had imagined. The museum is very well done but it is a little more geared towards adults than children but our daughters still had a great time. The museum is also a little pricey but well worth the visit. Another nice thing is you can walk to the National Cemetery nearby which is also worth a visit.
