“Good Exercise But You Really Need Good Weather.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

The Filbert steps go up to the the Coit Tower. They're easy to find from either North Beach , Broadway or the Embarcadero and if you have a site-specific guide book on hand you will be treated to some neat SF history. You might see parrotts, huge gladiolas, and othe rainy day type flora and fauna. Athletes work out using these steps but if you're not so inclined, take if slow. It's about 20 minutes up to the tower, quicker on the way down. When you get to the top you will have a 360 view of the city and note about 3 other stairways down. Best views though are from the top of the tower, though there is a cost.

“Feels worlds away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

In order to walk up the Filbert Steps you need to have emerged from the bustling Embarcadero area. So it really feels like another world once you start climbing. A hidden world, as you catch glimpses of gardens and houses you would never think existed here. It's a steady climb to the top, and the views are a nice reward for your exertions. You can either go back down the way you came, or follow the trail to the other side of Coit Tower, and go down the steps on Kearny Street.

“Filbert Steps, What a climb!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

Wow! I never knew that there was another way to Coit Tower other than driving. It was very fun to climb but defiantly something you should take your time and enjoy. It's a two mile hike up so be aware of that and it's also very steep. So, bring something to drink and be wearing proper footwear. I finished the climb in about twenty minutes but I would have liked more time to enjoy the view.

“You DO NOT have to be in shape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Just take your time, take in the odors, the moist air, or start at the top and just go down. One of the most beautiful features in SoCal and NorCal are the side streets, the alleys, the pathway and the steps and hikes. Rest mid way or more often.

“hundreds of steps”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

I was a bit disappointed after reading online reviews. Walked up the stairs, around Coit Tower and returned on a slightly different path. The views from the tower were excellent. But the walk itself was just okay. Steps, side yards, and no parrots.
