The Village house is in the Castro area of San Francisco. If you have ever wanted to experience the GLBT lifestyle, this is the place to do it. Located just around the corner from the famous Castro Theater, it puts you in the middle of the action.
We spent a weekend there while the "Castro Street Fair" was happening (early October). For one day, the streets are blocked off and thousands of folks come in to town to see the sights. While the fair is interesting, the visitors (and local residents) are even more so. Anything goes in dress, including street nudity.
The actual reason we went to SF was to see opera. SF Opera has a schedule that allows you to get tickets for three different operas, back to back on a few weekends per year. Then during the day, you have time for art museums (we saw a Picasso exhibit), shopping, and general sightseeing.
The Village House has several rooms, one with private bath and "balcony". The rest are shared facilities. Breakfast is a nice self-serve set up. The house is "old SF" and like almost everything has stairs. Public transportation is fast ,cheap and easy. The landlords are full of information and gracious. If you're wanting to pack a lot into a few days, this is the place to do it.
Room Tip: Ask for the back room with bath.
