“Free and good addition to the wonderful sea vessels on display at Hyde Pier”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2011

In addition to visiting the historic vessels on display at Hyde Pier (US$5 to enter and explore four vessels there) you can visit the actual museum (free) just across the street on Jefferson, next to the Argonaut Hotel.

This museum is a quick stop, offering general information and historical displays of the ships on display at Hyde Pier. You can also learn about the history of sea trade and its role in developing and shaping early San Francisco economy, community and society.

I must enjoyed the area in the back which discussed the treacherous time old captions had navigating their way into the San Francisco Bay area and the numerous ship wrecks that have resulted because of the climate and weather conditions here.

We recommend combining the Maritime Museum with a visit to Hyde Pier where historic vessels are docked, which can be entered and explored! Collectively, this is a very good experience for visitors to San Francisco.

“Fun and inexpensive!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2011 via mobile

My husband and I really enjoyed this - seems like something kids would love too. You get to climb aboard a variety of ships and see their inner workings.

“Excellent Musuem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2011

We love museums and this one was fantastic. You get to go aboard a steamer and giant clipper... Both were fantastic. It is only $5 and well worth it. you also get some great views of the bay and the city as they are well above the docks. Considering that most museums and things to do in SF are expensive, if you are on a budget it is a very cool place to visit.

It's a quick visit but the price is right and the map exhibit is very interesting.

“Unsusual museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2009

It is sections and is sprawling across different parts of Fisherman's Wharf. The Hyde Street Pier has an old ferry, old salmon ship and a tugboat you can walk aboard and tour.
