“Very affordable and solid choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

We picked this place because the rate was low and included parking, which can be $50 or more at a lot of other hotels in the city. We were very pleased with what we got for the value - quite a spacious room with a balcony and everything we needed!

I also had a very pleasant experience when I called the hotel beforehand (first to confirm I could keep the car parked there for a few hours after checkout, and second to let them know I would be checking in late at night). Both times the staff was very friendly, provided helpful information, and were welcoming overall.

If anything was a trade-off here, it was the location - we just happened to be a bit of a ways from the areas we were visiting on this trip, but you can't be close to everything. We discovered lots of cool restaurants and cafes in the area including the Marina area just a 15 minute walk away and were able to use Muni to get to areas like the Mission, Haight, GG Park, etc. easily.

Overall very pleased with this choice - we thought for such a low rate we would get cramped quarters and poor service and it was quite the opposite!

My wife and I stayed here on our trip to san francisco, the staff was very friendly and helpfull ( espicaly Edgar). We found it to be with in walking distance to quit a few sights and some very good resturants. the room was clean, no complaints, a bonus was they have free parking & that is a plus in this town!

Room Tip: rooms with a view of the city are the best

I have to admit that this hotel was much better than I was expecting. A few reasons we booked here was because the rate was fantastic, it was walking distance to many places we wanted to visit and they include free parking. On top of all that awesomeness, the service is outstanding. Edgar spent a solid 10 minutes explaining the city to us, showing us maps, making recommendations and making sure he answered/addressed all of our concerns. We requested a room with a good view and we got one that gave us a clear view of The Golden Gate Bridge! The room was super clean (I'm a super neat freak) and the bed was amazingly comfortable. Highly recommend.

This is the second time staying here, and I have to say, we really enjoy it here! The beds are amazing....real Tempurpedics. The room we had this time faced Lombard, and had a nice balcony facing the street and a nice view of the Golden Gate too! The actual hotel is clean, ample amount of towels, free parking, free wi-fi, and the best customer service! Last year when we stayed, we weren't real impressed with the customer service, but this year was above and beyond. We were in for the Fourth of July weekend, and had our car this time. Edgar went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. The parking area is small, and very hard to park a SUV in, so he accommodated us the whole weekend. He made several suggestions for restaurants, and was always friendly upon arrival each night. He informed us about different areas of the city, the good, the bad, which to avoid, etc. The actual hotel is within great walking distance to the Fisherman's Wharf too. Since we had a car this time, we did leave a lot to do things that are off the beaten path, but you really don't need a car to stay here! You can walk anywhere from here, then catch some form of public transportation easily. Thanks again Edgar!

Room Tip: Get a room facing Lombard, very pretty!

After searching hotels in San Francisco for several hours I came upon the Lombard Motor Inn. Most places wanted $50 per night to park my car on top of the $300 per night room rate. The Lombard Motor Inn had free parking and the room rate was half the price of bigger named locations. This place was perfect for our one-night stay. It was two blocks from the crooked Lombard Street and an easy five block walk to Ghiardellhi Square and Fisherman's Wharf. The front desk staff was friendly when we arrived. We arrived early at 2:00 and we were able to check-in early without any problems. The room was on the backside of the hotel which has no view and is about 4 feet away from the building behind it. But that is not a problem because we were there to visit the City and not look at it through a window. The 3rd floor hallway had an old building smell to it but that did not resonate into the room. One word of caution-the elevator door will open while the elevator it is still 6 inches above the floor. Be careful not to step out too soon. I would definitely stay at this location if ever in SF again. It was a great price, free parking, comfortable, and well located.

Room Tip: Back rooms have no view.

We struggled to find somewhere in San Francisco that offered parking, in what's considered a 'safe' area, and at a decent rate ... Fortunately after deciding to try somewhere for just one night and see how it was, rather than booking for all three, the Lombard Motor Inn came up in search results. It had a room available for two nights but not all three, but a different type of room available for the third night which is why it hadn't shown up as available when we searched for 3 nights - so we called up to check and they could accommodate us which was great.

We were very skeptical of what it would be like when we arrived around 8pm, and were worried there would be no parking spaces left. But there was and actually they had a decent number of spaces. The check-in desk guy even let us park in a space that's normally coned off but because we had a compact car it was fine. He was really friendly and welcoming, and very helpful answering all our questions. Our room was also great. Large bed, tv, safe in the wardrobe, sink outside the bathroom, and table with two chairs. We booked for the second two nights immediately.

There was no breakfast but we were out everyday anyway. There was free wifi. Easy walking distance down to the waterfront, Ghiradelli square, and marina area. There's a launderette nearby called Greenwich Clean Time which was ideal because we were traveling for 2 weeks and had almost run out of clean clothes! Taxi from Union Square area one night cost us $12 inc tip.

We only had one hiccup after the second night stay, we came back in the middle of the day and our key cards didn't work. We knew the carpets were being cleaned that day so had thought it was to do with that but when we go to the desk they said we were meant to have checked out. There was obviously a mixup when we'd booked the extra two nights stay but fortunately they could still accommodate us and hadn't moved anything out of the room.

Road noise wasn't too bad, but it wasn't completely cut out when you shut the balcony door. We were fine sleeping through it though and not a road that's too busy at night.

Overall good accommodation and decent value for money. Definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side are probably quieter, ours faced onto Lombard Street so there was some road...

Lombard Motor Inn was just right for us. My wife and I visiting San Francisco for the first time wanted something near the main attractions and clean but budget friendly. We used TripAdvisor to read about 50 SF motels before deciding to try the Lombard. We picked it because of the location, price, and parking. The location isn't perfect but it's not bad if you are ok with walking some like we do. Parking in SF is nearly impossible so having parking at the hotel and included in the price of the room is a huge perk! The room was very clean and the bed was incredibly comfortable! The price we paid was very good based on the competition. Only a couple negatives with this property. They need to add a micro-fridge to keep so drinks and leftovers cool. They don't offer breakfast, not even donuts, but they are plenty of places to eat nearby and the room is about $50/day less than hotels with breakfast. And those other hotels charge an extra $20-40/day for parking. The front office staff was very helpful with recommendations for places to visit and eat and directions around town. The cleaning staff did a great job and were very courteous as well. Overall, we were very pleased and would definitely stay at Lombard Motor Inn again.
