“Fine No-Frills Find! Stay Here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

If your goal in San Francisco is to be out in the City exploring, discovery and just plain enjoying San Francisco, AND you don't have any need to pay high hotel prices for extra for things you probably won't use or for which you could find alternatives out in the City at a more reasonable price, then this is your hotel. Because what this hotel gives you is a great location in a reasonably decent area (it's only a few blocks south of Union Street and not too far from restaurants and shopping on Chestnut Street, FREE PARKING (!!!) and a reasonably-sized room with comfortable beds and a nice-sized bathroom, both of them being very clean (I was amazed at how clean the carpet was), and frankly, in San Francisco, that is all you need in a hotel room. The beds were comfortable, the room had a safe, there was enough closet space for our clothes.

Yes, the hotel is older, the furniture looks like it was bought in the 1980s--though it is well cared-for and clean. Just think of it as if you were staying with an older aunt who hasn't updated her furniture in 30 years, but keeps everything clean and in good shape.

Snobby, status-conscious friends, those people who believe in wasting money on conspicuous consumption, will not be impressed with this hotel if your ego needs that kind of thing. However, since you will most likely pay less here on lodging than at fancy hotels, and thus have more money to spend other than on your hotel, your wallet will be impressed.

People who understand S.F. travel and that it is better to spend money doing things in and around the City other than spending it on a hotel room, will admire you, though.

I normally don't like motor inns because "motor inn" usually is synonymous with "dive", but let's not judge a book by its cover, especially since this hotel has received consistently good ratings in Tripadvisor. I found they were correct. This hotel is the exception. My room was very clean, very comfortable.

It has no frills. You get a nice-size clean room with a big enough clean bathroom, clean towels, comfortable beds, great location at a very good price (for San Francisco).

So you don't have a restaurant--S.F. is full of restaurants with many within walking distance. It doesn't have a hotel shop. But there is a corner convenience right across the street. It doesn't have an exercise room--but how often do you use those, anyway? If you need to exercise, take a walk! You won't be in the hotel much anyway, if you really want to visit San Francisco.

The Coventry Motor Inn is a great base of operation for anyone who needs a safe, clean, comfortable base from which to explore one of the great cities and regions of the United States.

Room Tip: The rooms on the third floor facing Lombard street can afford you a minimalist view of the Bay. I c...

We always stay at the Coventry when we're in San Francisco. It's clean, safe, and parking is free (or was the last time we visited). It's in a good neighborhood with many restaurants nearby and numerous small shops. We know all the bus lines nearby and can easily catch a bus to Union Square, Market Street, Chinatown, Pier 39, and Pac Bell park. You wouldn't necessarily need to rent a car if you're willing to walk a little. It more than meets our needs and haven't even looked for a better place since we found it. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms that don't face Lombard Street are quieter.

Stayed here early May 2014 for 4 nights. Was alot cheaper than most hotels.Very good value for amount paid.Cost $155 NZ for 3 adults per night.Loacation was on Lombard street in the Marina District.Bus stop was nearby.Nice restaurant was only a few yards away.Had some early morning starts and couldn't find anywhere nearby open before 10 am to get a coffee or some breakfast.Staff were pretty friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not on Lombard street as it is quite noisey.

We stayed at Coventry Inn for three nights in May 2014. It is located in close proximity to the touristy areas (Marina, Fishermans Wharf and The Golden Gate Bridge).

The rooms are simple, clean and a good size. The free parking is excellent and is the main reason as to why this inn is excellent value..

I would strongly recommend the Inn to anyone who's travelling to San Francisco on a budget.

Five stars for room. Four stars for service. Our room #301 was better than expected. We asked for a quiet 3rd floor room, away from elevators facing Moulton Street, and that’s what we got. As other reviewers have stated, the rooms are large, nicely updated and very clean. It is perhaps the quietest hotel room we have ever stayed in. Bus service is near the hotel and it is only a 25 minute walk to Fisherman’s Wharf. Our only complaint was an elderly night desk person who was very grumpy. One evening we asked for directions. Once given, we repeated them back for clarification to which he responded “what did I just tell you”. Another evening we called the front desk to ask for an extra pillow and his only response was “you will have to come and get it”. Yet another time our room had no drinking glasses or cups so I went down to the front desk and asked for two glasses. The same elderly gentleman reached behind a door and produced two cups without one word. Definitely not friendly or customer service oriented. In contrast, another gentleman night clerk investigated a banging noise on our roof during very high winds and went onto the roof to secure an errant piece of metal. Overall, we would definitely stay again and especially if we had a car. Perhaps the elderly gentleman will be retired when we next visit. Note:The writer is age 65.

Room Tip: Third floor, away from elevators, facing Moulton Street, #301.

Our room wasn't very quiet as we were close to the main road . Very clean. Hotel has the car park but if you are not planning to hire a car it's easy to get by public transport. Best way is train from the aiport and then bus it will cost you around 12-14 USD one way pp. Hotel is little bit away from the center but we walked everywhere from there.
Hotel is located half way between famous bridge and fisherman wharf. Near the hotel you can find a lot of different restaurants, bars and shops. There is also a few supermarkets and local fruit market where you can get some organic freshly prepared food. We stayed there just few nights and walk lots of miles - if you don't like to walk to much I would advise you to find something closer to the down town :-)
I would stay in this hotel again.
