“Nice place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago via mobile

Very handy spot, easy walk to main attractions, we stayed in one of the front rooms which was louder as Lombard is a busy street, but had no trouble sleeping. The room was clean and very comfortable, the staff were very friendly and helpful.
If you are wanting a quick look around the big bus hop on hop off service stops right out front.

We stayed a total of 4 nights at Buena Vista Motor Inn and are actually quite happy with everything!

Yes, the hotel can use a renovation and yes depending on what side your room is at it can be a bit noisy (don't forget that Lombard Street basically is HWY 101), but in a city like San Francisco it's all about location, location, location and that is where Buena Vista hits the jackpot!

3 tiny blocks up Gough you have Union Street and the Cowhollow area with shops and restaurants;
Fisherman's Wharf is a 10-15 minutes stroll to the Northeast;
Russian Hill and the Crookedest Street are directly East of the hotel;
A bit further East is the Northbeach area and South of that China Town and Union Square.

We basically walked everything and sometimes took a cab back home. The big bus hop on/off tour has a stop right in front of the hotel (stop 15), which we immediately took after we arrived in the morning and found out that we could check in after 3pm only.

The receptionist Ian (I believe) is very knowledgeable and helpful and he even managed to give us an early checkin after we arrived back from Napa for our last night in SF.

The only thing I can say after reading other reviews is that it seems that the pricing per night seems to be all over the board. I would suggest to check a few different places for prices and of course to book well in advance. We stayed during the big Oracle convention, but our price per night was definitely a lot less than the recently mentioned $310 per night.

Room Tip: side and back are definitely less noisy than front

Amazing service from day one, very helpful man at reception introduced us to the area and informed us of the best places to go. Nice big room and Facilities, very clean. Like said before its outdated, would be great to just redecorate the place, but we saw past that. The breakfast room is very small and gets busy and awkward in the morning, we brought ours upstairs in the end. Other than that perfect stay. Great value for san francisco average prices, but not a fan of how expensive San Fran is!!

We spent $310 for a one night stay at this motel on a Friday (weekend nite). Though it sports a roof top deck, it is tiny & smells of cigarettes from the 2 wall installed ashtrays. You do get a nice view of the golden gate bridge however! The place is pretty run down & in serious need of an overhaul. There was a slight odor & it felt overall like things were not as clean as they could be (in our room) & certainly not worth $310/nite. The breakfast was just okay (slightly stale danishes & watered down coffee). The parking lot below is awakward to get in & out of & the location of the motel is pretty noisy (though it is in rather close proximity to some of the tourist stops. Overall, I'm glad we only spent 1 nite there, but overall felt a bit ripped off. I can't say I would recommend this place to anyone.

Room Tip: If you stay here opt for a room in the back of the hotel to avoid all the noise from the street traf...

We stayed here for 4 nights with our 2 adult children, all in one room. We found it to be more than adequate for our needs, afterall we were out most of the time. Had a problem with the room card not working but it was sorted straight away. We were on the top floor looking over the rear of hotel, quiet and a view of the backs of houses etc which we actually found quite interesting coming from the UK. Best thing was location, a flat 25 min walk to fishermans walk and on the same route as The Big Bus Tour. We also walked to the crookedest street and the Mrs Doubtfire house.

Breakfast was cakes, pastries and fruit, plus tea, coffee and juices but plenty of it. Best to take it to the sitting area on 3rd floor, or back to your room.

Area seemed safe.

Stayed for 2 nights, location was right for us, reception team very helpful. Good size room but overlooked the back of the hotel so not a great view. Room was clean. Expensive for this type of motel room but it was San Francisco so to be expected due to location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view.

This was a great place to stay. Myself wife and child stayed here and was in a perfect location to the pier precinct and restaurants in Union street. Staff were very nice and helpful too. Locals nearby were friendly and didn't see any "riff raff" nice and clean also.
