“Perfect City Hotel with Kids”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

I loved this city hotel! We stayed here for 2 nights visiting family in San Francisco and traveled with our 21 month old son. Fabulous rooms: a full kitchen and washer and dryer, tall ceilings, brick walls, a lot of light, great views, very comfy beds and great linens. We had a very spacious 2 bedroom 3 bath "apartment" with bay views. Our friends and family who live in the city were all very impressed with the size of the rooms and the views even though they were hesitant to come to Fisherman's Wharf ("the only reason to go down there is for In N'Out!"). I enjoyed it as I grew up getting ice cream at Ghiridelli and eating at Scoma's. Our son loved all the activity to watch- the boats going in and out of the harbor, all the people in Ghiradelli Square. We enjoyed breakfast- casual and nothing fancy- but great for kids. And an afternoon glass of wine on their outdoor terrace facing the bay. Our son got a little stuffed animal when we checked in, which he thought was great. And we appreciated all the chocolates!!

A big negative for us was no bath tub!! Our son takes a bath every night so that was a challenge. It can be a little noisy at night but nothing terrible.

We will stay here again next time we are in San Francisco. While in SF I have tried the other Fairmont, St. Regis, Four Seasons, Mark Hopkins, Ritz Carlton.... this is the best option with kids!

Walking into the lobby was like stepping back into another era. The classical opulence is just something you don't see nowadays. The staff was very attentive, the rooms were clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. The restaurant in the lobby was really good, with stellar service.

We stayed at the luxurious Fairmont for a week over Spring Break, March 23-30. It was perfect! We had our 2 boys with us (14 and 9).
Pros:
Service-Front desk concierges completely spoiled us (free Ghirardelli chocolates at their desk every time we stop by!), always absolutely pleased to help, very friendly and approachable, arranged a rental car brought right to the hotel door so we could go to Muir Woods, brought up DVD movies we requested, with popcorn...on and on.

Room 209-beautiful, 1400 square feet. Essentially 2 master bedrooms with king beds and own bath, TV. Living area is in between the 2 rooms, so more privacy and less noise. Kitchen plenty for making simple meals (Trader Joe's is walking distance away) Spotlessly cleaned every day by our wonderful housekeeper (I think Yiu Xin was her name-sorry if I'm misremembering)

Amenities-bikes to borrow, car to drive you within 2 miles of the hotel, wine & cheese reception every afternoon, great breakfast, lovely outdoor terrace overlooking Ghirardelli Square with fire pit so it was comfortable even in 50 degree weather-great for 'people watching' but still felt private

Location--It says a LOT about the other "pros" that location is in 4th place. Walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz ferry, restaurants from casual to elegant, and 3 different Ghirardelli stores within a 2 minute walk (hot fudge sundae-fantastic) Easy to bike ride to Golden Gate Bridge or Presidio.

Cons:
Seriously, free Ghirardelli chocolates on the pillows, at concierge desk, etc--I am blaming my 3 pound weight gain squarely on the shoulders of the Fairmont!
Also, this is really getting unreasonably picky, but there is no swimming pool. It is otherwise a completely perfect place to bring kids. On the other hand, there is a pool table, lots of board games and puzzles, and playing cards...we did find plenty to do.

I would return in a heartbeat. I can't imagine staying anywhere else.

We stayed at the Fairmont for 2 nights. It is a large timeshare/condo. It has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. otel staff was very nice and they have a car that will take you anywhere within a 2 mile ride. The hotel is in a perfect location right outside of Ghiradelli square so it is so easy to walk anywhere. They have an amazing breakfast in the morning. It is a graet place to stay.

Our familyof 5 stayed in one of the 2 bedroom residences for 6 nights during spring break and we would go back in a heartbeat. This is a beautiful property, as you would expect with a Fairmont, with comfortable, well appointed rooms. As great as the facility is, the staff is even better. The front desk, bell men, butlers, housekeeping were all first rate. The property is small, and they knew our names by the second day. No request was too large or small and each was greeted with a smile.

After many trips to SF and always staying on Nob Hill, I'll admit I was a little worried the location would be crowded and noisy, but not so. The big crowds are closer to Fisherman's Wharf and the street in front of the hotel was actually not busy at all. The shops in the square are closed by 8 and there were no issues with noise, even in our room overlooking the fire pit in the square. The location is convenient to the cable cars and public transit.

The residences are in fantastic shape, very clean and convenient. I'm not one to cook on vacation, but if you are so inclined, the kitchen is certainly adequate. A light continental breakfast is offered each morning. The "reception room" where breakfast is served could get crowded, but we just took ours back to the room and enjoyed it there. Afternoon wine and cheese was a nice touch.

We liked having a 2 bedroom. Two kids slept in one room and the youngest was fine on the sofa bed. Call me spoiled, but this mom is not sharing a bathroom with 3 boys. The master bath was large with separate shower and tub. The secondary bath was also nice, but no separate shower. They both did have a door for the WC, which is harder to find in some older hotels.

A huge plus for us was the house car that will take you within 2 miles of the hotel. This was particularly nice during peak times in public transit. We called after dinner and were picked up within 15-20 minutes and driven back to the front door.

Room Tip: We were on the first floor, which I usually won't take becuase of noise, but there was no issue...

Amazing A++++ hotel perfect across the board. Went on vacation with wife and three small kids to SF for a couple days. We were looking for someplace convenient to activities since we didn't have a lot of time in town. This place was highly rated on trip advisor so we went for it. We rented a two bedroom suite. My wife got there with the kids a day before me and both she and the kids were blown away by not only how nice (and huge) the rooms are but how incredibly hospitable the staff was. The room itself was great and i will say it again - huge. plenty of space for a family of 5 to spread out and take over. We had the room inside the clocktower which was cool and had our own roofdeck balcony but we were also closer to all the rooftop mechanicals so was a little noisy at night. And outside the room is a lovely deck with views overlooking the bay and alcatraz. As for the location, it was great. An easy walk to the cable cars, fisherman's wharf, ferry to alcatraz, lombard street, etc. Very nice location. I would recommend anyone being tourists with kids to stay in this part of town, since we were debating this vs. union square and we don't really know SF at all. The service was probably the best anywhere i have ever stayed. The staff all know who we were and went out of their way to be nice to us. They have a handy suv that will take you around if it is available. The concierge was terrific at recommendations, including recommending we get a rental car to go to Sausalito and Muir Woods one afternoon, and then he does the paperwork and the car is just there ready to go. Honestly, for a two day quick sightseeing stayover, this hotel and its staff were actually perfect. Nothing bad to say (other than it is not cheap) and I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel to families looking for a great place to stay.
