Owner description: The world’s only aquarium-planetarium-rainforest-living museum. Come nose-to-beak with penguins and parrots, watch sharks and sting rays cruise beneath your feet, and feel the spray of the California coast. Fly to Mars (and beyond the Milky Way!) from the safety of your planetarium seat, take a virtual safari in African Hall, or climb into the canopy of a living rainforest. Face your fears—and an albino alligator—inside the Swamp, and meet scientists as they return from research expeditions around the world. From the depths of a Philippine coral reef to the outer reaches of the Universe, it's all inside the California Academy of Sciences.

“Must visit...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2011

We have been wanted to visit the California Academy of Science for a while now. The facility is about as "green" as it gets! From the Living Roof to the fish aquariums everything was designed to perfection. Be sure to see the Rays (next to the planetarium) if you go!

“Oh to be a kid again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2011

We visited during December and they had lots of activities geared toward kids - especially the snow room. What fun! (even for an adult). The Museum is laid out very well with just enough to whet the appetite and teach visitors of any age something new. Great international cafeteria! (kind of expensive, but no other alternatives before getting to the museum.)

“Really fun way to spend an afternoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2011

My husband, our friend and I went to the museum and really enjoyed it. It's not cheap but it was a fun way to spend an afternoon. There were a variety of exhibits, and the Planterium had a movie on evolution. I took some amazing photos and would highly recommend it.

PS- My husband says they should change the name to the "Caifornia Academy of Natural Sciences" because there's no physics there.

“Average all-round museum with an excellent planetarium”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2011

I have been to many science museums around the world and I have to admit that the California Academy of Sciences occupies the top half of the list. I gave it a "very good" rating due to its excellent planetarium which is a must if you visit the academy. Other than the planetarium and the show, the academy tries hard to showcase a bit of everything e.g. natural science, ecosystem, aquarium but fails to excel in anyone of them. But that said, the academy is definitely suitable for the kids as it manages to give an all-round display of everything without great depth into one area. An average museum with an excellent planetarium!

“Loved the rainforest and aquarium especially.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2011

We went here with the SF City Pass. It is a fantastic museum, with a rainforest in a dome, an aquarium section, which you can see from the rainforest, as well as many other tanks of sea creatures. There were several other great areas to look at and we spent over 3 hours here.
