We initially wanted to stay in Fisherman's wharf, but couldn't because the hotel was booked up. When we got to San Francisco we were SO glad we were staying in Union square instead!
We chose this hotel based on the reviews on Trip Advisor, and it certainly met our expectations. On booking the room, we had asked for a room with a view of Union square as we were celebrating our honeymoon. Our request was met, we had a brilliant view - and there was also a bottle of champagne waiting for us when we checked in, which was a lovely surprise.
There was also a jar of sweets in the room, a washing line (which actually came in handy), and an umbrella - all nice touches.
People have mentioned in previous reviews that the rooms are small - we didn't find this to be the case, there was plenty of room, especially because there was a huge walk-in closet which easily held our suitcases and kept them out of the way.
There have also been complaints in other reviews about the rooms being too noisy - again we didn't find this a problem - quite the contrary, as we purposely left the windows open every night to listen to the sound of the trolleys outside. But when the windows were closed, it wasn't noisy at all.
Every staff member we encountered was polite and helpful. There was free internet access, tea, coffee and cookies available in the lobby.
The hotel was in an ideal location for us to see all the sights, and we were able to easily get around the city using a MUNI pass, which we were advised to get by Suzy at the desk when we checked in.
All in all, this was a lovely hotel at an extremely reasonable price, and we will definately be staying here again when we return to San Francisco.
