“Superbowl Loss Not so Bad after Chancellor Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

We checked into the Chancellor in beautiful San Francisco to enjoy Superbowl Sunday in the heart of the city. The hotel had a nice, homey feeling to it, and the staff were above par. Check- in was easy, and the hotel couldn't have been better placed. Literally, much that the City has to offer is just footsteps away. The room was small, but very nicely decorated. Loved the flatscreen TV, as we had cocktails and enjoyed the first portion of the game in our room. Even though our team fell a little short, our stay at the Chancellor was a true touchdown. We will return!

Room Tip: If you don't mind walking and rolling your luggage a few blocks, the Stockton street parking gar...

...only you are meticulously attended to. My husband and I stopped overnight in San Francisco on our way to Auckland, New Zealand. We had stayed at the Chancellor 25 years ago when attending my sister's wedding. The hotel has been beautifully redecorated but still has maintained the wonderful old style and comfortableness that we had remembered.
We arrived late from the airport and were greeted with fresh coffee and a fresh bowl of apples at the front desk. Then, to our surprise, we were upgraded to a suite. The rooms remind me of hotel rooms in London...small, beautifully decorated, great bedding and linens, totally comfortable. The bathrooms (there were 2) were immaculate and supplied with high end accoutrements.
We spent the next day visiting Hyde Street Pier and Fisherman's Wharf via cable car while the hotel gladly held our luggage and when we returned there was a samovoir of iced water with limes and cookies in the lobby. The hotel then arranged for our easy transfer to the airport for our flight.
If you like personal, comfortable, reasonably priced hotels, this is the hotel for you.
I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Room Tip: The suite is great...1501

Our first stay at the Chancellor was fantastic! Great location & an easy walk and or cable car ride to just about everywhere. Sparkling clean - efficient staff - fresh cookies & coffee & iced cucumber water in the lobby. Small room was updated but in keeping with the vintage feeling - very comfortable, cozy & charming - the perfect spot to enjoy the beautiful city of San Francisco!

All the positive remarks on Trip Advisor led us to choose this hotel for our 3 night stay in San Francisco. All true, so I won't repeat too much of the same. This was the perfect location, close to major transportation. Rooms are clean, perfectly adequate, cozy & very comfortable. Staff were great. (Kent, the Bellman was especially friendly & helpful with more than luggage.) Great value for a prime location. I appreciated that things like wi-fi & refrigerator are complimentary. I only wished we had a coffee maker in the room, but free coffee, tea & snacks were always available in the lobby. As our daughter now lives in SF, this will be our hotel of choice for future visits.

I absolutely loved my stay at this hotel. Its right by the trolley line so you can open your window up and hear the trolley and enjoy the scenic views right from your hotel room. I escaped onto the fire escape which I probably shouldn't have done but it was awesome and I will do it again if I get the chance. You are like a 100 yards off of Union Square which is pretty awesome. I was there at winter time so they had an ice rink setup (although they had to have a generator to keep it cold enough b/c San Fran is way to warm for ice). I was able to get to everything in the city by public transit right from this hotel. They even have free umbrellas for you to borrow in your room since its quite common to rain in San Fran. The staff were friendly, the rooms are small but unique and comfortable. There is a bar with fair prices in the lobby. You are also a short walk to a bar I enjoyed called "Top of the Tunnel" where I was able to drink some good microbrews while waiting to meet our friends for dinner. I will book this hotel in a heartbeat next time I go to San Fran.

Room Tip: asks for a hotel room as high as you can and facing the street for the best view, I don't know w...

Thank you for the high praise. Just for the record, we do not recommend people go out on the fire escapes. If they fall, it can be really messy for us and painful for them.

This hotel is in a great location close to where its all happening on Union Square. The rooms are definitely small and for once I actually found the bed (we had single twin beds) to be small and uncomfortable although my partner had no problems with them. The rooms were very clean, the staff were always helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here although the greater part of that time was spent outdoors shopping with my partner and enjoying everything San Francisco had to offer.Otherwise its a great hotel to base yourself in when visiting San Francisco.

Room Tip: i cant speak for the other rooms but we asked for a room at the back of the hotel to stay away from...

It has been several years since we stayed at the Chancellor and found the room upgrades very nice. Room was comfortable and clean. Room service food and restaurant were very good and reasonably priced. Desk staff were friendly. The lobby is a nice area to relax. Location cannot be better, right on the corner of Union Square with the cable car out the door! We will be back!

Room Tip: Interior rooms are a bit larger than some on the front. Love the walk-in closet with two luggage ra...
