“Great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

Stayed for four nights at this hotel with a group of people and all of us were very happy....the staff at this hotel is superior to any I have stayed. Incredibly friendly and helpful. We requested for the group to be all on the same floor and surprise, we were. My experience at other hotels is that they assign the rooms once you get there but the Chancellor had us all together on the 14th floor. Everyone in our group were happy with the rooms, the cleanliness and the location is the absolute best! There is a small fridge in each room which was great for that bottle of wine we got on our wine tour and the bed was incredibly comfortable.
I would not hesitate to stay here again. Great job Chancellor Hotel!!

We stayed at the Chancellor for 2 nights over Veterans' Day weekend. The location is great - right on Union Square, so close to shopping, MUNI and cable cars, and restaurants. If anything, Union Square was too crowded on the weekend! The rooms are small, given the age of the hotel, but have been nicely renovated, with modern furniture, a comfortable bed, a choice of pillows from the pillow menu, and flat screen tv. The room also had a fridge, 2 sitting chairs and a table. The water pressure in the shower was very poor - it took twice as long as normal to wash my hair. The bathroom is the only part of the room not really upgraded. The staff were very friendly and helpful with restaurant recommendations, and the lady at the tour desk was very helpful with arranging last minute airport transportation for us.

Stayed for several nights recently while in SF on business. At check-in, I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that the hotel had taken note of the preferences I indicated when I booked - high floor, quiet room. As it turned out, I was on the 11th floor, and my room was amazingly quiet. It was quite warm for a couple days, and it was possible to sleep with the window open - very pleasant. Staff were friendly, the room was clean and had everything I needed, good housekeeping service - overall a really solid choice. The location is excellent - right across from Union Square, just about 3 blocks from the Powell Muni station (BART and streetcars) and the cable car runs right out front. Tons of shopping and food choices in the area.

Hotel was great! rooms are a little small but cozy. Yes there is no AC but it is not needed with the ceiling fan. Great vies of Union Square. Comfy bed! Rooms seem to have been updated recently with accent wall, flat screens. They even had a bottle of champagne in our room when we checked in since it was our anniversary.

Our stay at the Chancellor was wonderful. The hotel is charming, elegant, clean and very
accesible to Union Square. We met the staff, Olga and Kent, two hard working, helpful young people. The lobby itself is welcoming and warm, with complimentary snacks, coffee and tea. Our room was comfortable and well cared for by the house staff. The location is perfect, close enough to walk to BART and MUNI, cable cars outside the door of the hotel, nearby bus and taxi service. Our location gave us great freedom to walk to many sights and to use public transportation to museums and great venues, convenient to shopping, cafes and
restaurants. We enjoyed hospitality of the staff and help getting back to the airport.

Nice, historic hotel just north of Union Square. Convenient to public transportation, shopping and restaurants. Rooms are small but decor is nice and clean. Walls are a little thin - could hear the baby next door.

We spent two nights in August at the Chancellor hotel and really enjoyed our stay. We were allowed to check in at 11am which after a long flight from Chicago and a quick turnaround to get to AT&T park, it was a huge help! Our room was on the 3rd floor in a corner - not the best view (looking out to the alley) but we were in the room for such a limited amount of time we didn't notice. The room was on the small side but the bed was comfy, the TV was nice and I loved the pillow menu! The location had to be the best part of the hotel, it was in union square - walking distance to Chinatown, AT&T park and near bars/restaurants. The price was reasonable given how expensive the town is to stay in and if we head back to the Bay Area, we would def. stay there again!

PS: if you are looking for a great cocktail bar, hit up Tope!
