“Affordable luxury”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2010

Found a great rate by searching on line for this beautiful hotel on Nob Hill. Small lobby. Upgraded to larger room which had small kitchenette, plenty of closet space. Cable car stops in front. Friendly staff. Clean. Dated but charming.

I stayed here in May for my honeymoon and it was excellent. Came back in October on business and it was even better.

Can't fault the Huntington. Front desk service - excellent. Door guys - excellent and great for a chat. We received an upgrade upon arrival into an absolutely stunning room on the 8th floor which was really appreciated.

Our stop in SFO was after 14 days of meetings and work in NYC and LA and after a night at the Huntington I felt relaxed and comfortable. Nob Hill is a great area and location wise the hotels on Nob Hill can't be beat.

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful city. Wouldn't stay anywhere else.

We stayed at the Huntington for 6 nights at the beginning of October, we had done extensive research into hotels in San Francisco and decided that The Huntington was perfect, the reviews on here were great, the price on Booking.com was amazing and the service which was provided by Gary in reservations and Paul the concierge prior to arrival were great. We arrived at the Hotel to be meet by Jason the door man, he was extremely friendly helped us with our bags and through to the front desk. (He remained friendly and helpful throughout the week, without a doubt the hotels best asset) the receptionist on arrival was nice, she was helpful but it did feel like she was reading from a script! Other than that the other front desk staff were very cold you were lucky to get a smile or acknowlegement when you walked through the foyer.
The bedroom was lovely, we were on the 12th floor looking out over to Union Square, the room was large, massive wardrobe, modern but yet with a classic style, which i love. bathroom was a good size, double sink which is a plus and shower always had plenty of hot water. The only negative point was the lack of drawers and the windows and sills could do with a clean. Turndown service was a nice touch each night, however we didn't get complimentary water everyday, which was odd.
The pool area was a major plus point, the pool is very small and you struggle to get a good swim if there are more than 4 people in it. Saying that we were down there between 6am - 7am most mornings so had the place to ourseleves, the free fruit and water was a nice touch.
No tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms which is ok however i do think $12 plus tax, plus $3 tray charge and Gratuity is a little expensive for 2 coffees each day, we were on our holiday so didn't mind but it does make a difference at the end of the stay when you have paid over $100 just on coffee!! We had room service 1 night, it was a treat and very nicely presented, again its the added extras that bump up the prices. Also we would have had it another night only it finishes at 10.30pm so couldn't get anything to eat.
The Big 4 was a great formal area, the only problem is when you have been out sightseeing all day it would have been nice to sit in the barand have a drink with out feeling that you had to get changed into a shirt and trousers. We had breakfast 1 morning $50 for the 2 of us!! again its not relaxing as its to formal. The hotel needs a seperate bar/coffee lounge for those who not feel the need to be dressed formal.
Overall the Bedrooms and Spa make this hotel, the staff do not! I would recommend it others as the location is great. However those hills are killers.
NO FREE WIFI, $9.95 a day, rip off in this day and age, my advice walk down 1 block to the Fairmont hotels cafe (at the stop/junction for Powell/Mason Cable Cart) they have free WIFI
Some other tips:
Luce restaurant at the Intercontinental in the financial district is amazing. The Wine waiter was very informative and selected a great bottle.
Avoid Top of the Mark, it has had its day!! views are good, service and clientele are poor!
Fog city dinner was not the american diner experience we were hoping for.
Alcatraz night tour was brilliant highly recommend it.
Japanesse gardens by the De Young museum in Golden Gate park were beatiful and peaceful. Do not miss them, spend a day or atleast the afternoon chilling out and exploring GG park.
Best DimSum ever tasted - Yanksing - 2nd street and Stephenson, food was great, i want one in London they are so much better than Pingpong.

The location of this hotel was ideal for us as it was convenient to Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square by cable car, but away from the crowds and noise. Our room was large and the king size bed very comfortable. The staff were friendly, especially the bellmen. We used the pool and hot tub nightly and although they were not large, they were not busy during the times we used them. We did not dine at the restaurant and did not use room service.

Our 10th Anniversary was spent at the Huntington...and the staff made it a fabulous memory in every way! The Huntington Hotel is a special gem in San Francisco. From its central Nob Hill location, you are within short walking distance to many of San Francisco's best features (theaters, restaurants, shopping, historical places, etc.). The hotel staff are all friendly and professional in their interactions with guests. The rooms are spacious in size and the windows must be triple insulated, as it was extremely quite and restful at night. The Spa is Fantastic! Be sure to book treatments and be pampered. I'll be back (Thanks Arnold)!

We stayed at the Huntington the first two and last night of our 10 day trip. The hotel is older, but has been updated - great bathrooms, flat screen tvs, really comfortable beds, and very clean. The hotel has a fabulous pool with great views of the city and is situated in Nob Hill. We were upgraded on our first two nights and our last night before returning home - it was a great send off from a great city and hotel!

On arrival to the lovely hotel lobby, we were informed we had been upgraded to a one bed suite. The beautiful room had lots of lovely antique furniture and lovely views over the catherdal and local neighbourhood park. The staff were very accomdating and even left us a bottle of bubbly in our room, which unfortunately we didnt drink as I had such a cold!
The bathroom was slighly small but had plenty of storage space and lovely l'Occataine products. The bed was extremely comfortable and cosy too.
The spa was a lovely addition with a lovely balcony to relax on and nice refreshments.
We didnt eat in the hotel but the menu looked good but pricey.
In a great location but a very steep hill to master if going down towards union square.
Would throughly recommend this hotel to all people wanting a bit of old school lux in San Francisco! Thank you for making our holiday!
