This hotel has lovely common areas with opulent chandeliers and crown moldings indicative of days gone by. The rooms are simple and traditional in decor and a bit on the small size with very comfortable beds. Unfortunately our room faced an interior well, I'll call it a court yard for lack of a better term but ugly shaft of surrounding walls seems more apropos. I think a room facing market street with a city view would have been nice yet possibly noisy. One nice thing about our room was that the single hung window opened all the way up so we had nice fresh air all night with little noise. We were however, awoken by the vibrating pipes in the wall every time someone in the surrounding rooms turned on the shower. Like sleeping with the Trojan marching band. We are energetic city walkers and found this location to be extremely convenient to everything the city had to offer including Union square China town, North beach and our favorite Saturday farmers market at the Embarcadero. We even walked to Fisherman's Wharf but I'm not sure everyone would be up to that. It was a very n ice trip.
