“Home Away From Home”

We loved the Petite Auberge! This is a rustic and little hotel that was very comfortable and welcoming. The staff was wonderful, very friendly and welcoming. We have been at some 4 star hotel that was very beautiful but impersonal. Petite Auberge made us feel at home. My husband was sick during part of our stay there, He stayed in bed while I did some computer work in the cosy sitting room in the basement sipping hot tea and enjoying the fireplace. It was very relaxing. Wonderful attentive staff!!! Will be back int he future for sure! Toronto, Canada

I was a bit concerned because the area around Union Square is a mix of very nice neighborhoods and some not-so-nice, especially because the price was much more reasonable for this hotel than others. But my concerns disappeared - it's a lovely small hotel, albeit with a few quirks.

Pro:
- Small but very comfortable rooms (mine had a fireplace)
- (Free) WiFi worked well
- Nice (free) breakfast - much better than in chain hotels!
- Friendly staff
- Convenient location just a few blocks from Union Square on a street that doesn't seem to have a lot of homeless

Negative:
- To check in / check out, you have to go two doors down to the White Swan hotel (minor issue)
- If you're facing the street (there's one room on each floor, I think) that could be noisy (I was in the back, which was very pleasant)
- It's a steep climb up the hill from Union Square - get your exercise!

What a charming little get away in the middle of the city! Petite Auberge offers old world charm with great service and privacy. Great location with easy access to Union Square, China Town, Grace Cathedral and the cable car stops. The room was clean and comfortable with a lovely fireplace and view to the inner courtyard. Breakfast and the evening reception were also great. I can say enough about the friendly service without ever feeling like people were intruding on our privacy. I'm looking forward to the next visit. Thanks Andy!

It's a cute little hotel which is pretty central for San Fran sightseeing. The staff are friendly and the hotel is very welcoming.

Only complaint is that the floors creak if you are on the ground floor due to the age of the building. Otherwise really enjoyed it.

My wife & I enjoyed the ambience of the hotel. It is an old building with a great amount of charm. The only 'non 5' (rooms) was due to the small shower. The breakfast was well above those at similar hotels we have stayed in. The location was perfect for us...we enjoy walking, even up & down the hills in San Francisco...the location offered the perfect starting point 1) to tour 1) many locations nearby and 2) to begin our north, south, east and west touring. Last but certainly not least, the staff was fantastic...we mostly dealt with Molly and she is the most friendly and accommodating person we have ever had the pleasure to encounter in the service industry. We did not take advantage of the afternoon wine & appetizers as we didn't return in until late.

We stayed at the Petite Auberge (sister property to White Swan) for the first time, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Room was clean and pleasant; even had a book case with a good selection of quality books in it (ranging from contemporary thrillers to Charles Dickens). The included breakfast was wonderful: most items prepared fresh in their own kitchen. And the afternoon snack was great too. I enjoyed the wine, and the various homemade snacks and cheese and crackers really helped our children perk up after an exciting and tiring day in the city. Friendly staff make the place feel much more like a home than any of the cookie cutter hotels ever can. Highly recommended.
