“Great location in union square! Helpful front desk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

Great location, step out the front door turn left and your in union square. Letters left by management about construction noise but we never really heard anything. Reception helpful with any questions we had. Odd to not have breakfast facilities and no bar fridge in room which was a bit of a pain. There was complimentary coffee and oj on 9th floor which was good. Lighting in room was dull needs to be improved.... Bed was awesome! Would stay there again. Streetcar #30 gets you down to fishermans wharf area for $2 which was easy and cheap to use. Also went to Gary Danko restaurant.. Delish would recommend!!!

We loved this hotel 2 minutes from Union Square and the cable car line. Lots of restaurants, eateries and shops close by and only 10 minute walk to Westfield. Hotel room was well appointed, clean and comfortable. No problem getting around from here and the location was nice and quiet.

There is water and tea available in the lobby in the mornings and the same plus sherry in the afternoon that can be enjoyed with the musicians. A nice touch to enjoy while having a rest and making plans for dinner.

What a great stay! The hotel is most conveniently located almost on Union Square but at the same time is quiet enough and on a safe location. The area is full of shops, restaurants, cafes etc, with most things within walking distance and it is very easy to reach transportation from there. Rooms are quite spacious (at least by European standards) with large bathrooms and very very clean and comfy. The beds are big with very nice mattresses and pillows. The only thing that could be improved is that sometimes you may have to wait for an elevator.
The biggest strength of the hotel however it's the staff that made as feel welcome from the very beginning despite the fact that upon arrival we were not at our best mood. Throughout our stay their help has been valuable and would always smile despite me prompting them almost continuously with a large variety of issues (and by the way they also suggested the best sushi place I have ever been to!).
I would definitely return to this great value hotel!!!

This was our 4th or 5th stay at the Kensington. Half a block from Union Square is it surprisingly quiet. Very efficient check-in and check-out. Bob the doorman has been there for years and is a wealth of information - he rarely cracks a smile, but will always have a joke or place to suggest to go see.
Our king room was a good size although the bathroom was a bit small - afterall it is an older building.
They have a coffee/juice bar in the morning and sherry or tea in the afternoon in the lobby. One night they even had two musicians !
We will continue to book this hotel due to its location and value.

Room Tip: Like any hotel, the more you spend the more you get - but any room is okay here.

You are made to feel welcome from the minute you arrive at this hotel. The rooms are big and spacious and the bathroom is very attractive and posh! The room was clean and tidy, and I felt very safe in the hotel. The hotel is just up the street from Union Square and all the shops and it is in a safe location. (We were two girls travelling alone and never felt unsafe once!) There are plenty of places to eat nearby and The Pinecrest Cafe does huge and delicious meals at a very cheap price, although there are some interesting characters around that area!! The hotel provides free tea and cherry in the downstairs lobby and with the classical music playing, it really does feel very posh. This was one of my favourite hotels during my tour of America and I would happily stay here again.

A place in the center of everything. The location was great and the services were warming. The morning complimentary Orange Juice and Coffee hit the spot to get up and start the sightseeing. There was evening shery/tea and lime water we did not take advantage of but for those who would I am sure would enjoy.
The place did not have AC and that did not matter 1 bit- - we ran the fan and there was no air issues. Don't expect to have a view as all I think for the most part looked out to the buildings - but get out and enjoy don't stay in the room. There are 12 floors so next time I would have called 2ish days before and found out how to perhaps get on the 7+ floors like a prior review suggested. Glad to write a review to keep the vote on top.

Room Tip: Price - and the fluffy bed should sell the room
