“I recommend it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2005

my wife and i stayed here for our first anniversary. we had a great time! the hotel is in a great location in north beach near most of the popular attractions, good restaraunts and nightlife. the staff is extra friendly and helpful with helping you choose restaraunts, making reservations, etc. the rooms are small because the hotel is in an old building. the rooms have cool decorations though. if you want something romantic and a little different this place is cool. if you need a full-service hotel like the sheraton this will not meet your needs. i'd stay there again.

This is the place for me! Personality, service, great location - the neighborhood is my favorite in SF. Service was REALLY GOOD, they are nice people that make you feel at home. Tasteful & unique decor - and the bakery downstairs makes the best cappucino ever. I will definately stay there any time I am in San Francisco. Don't miss North Beach Pizza nearby. I really don't want to share this hotel - but can't keep it to myself! The only downside is the stairs but the staff will help you in any way they can with that. Besides - its SF - get used to climbing!

This was my second stay this hotel The staff was extremely nice and the sherry evening reception was a nice end to a long day. The rooms are very small but the bathrooms are surprisingly large in comparision. I had a great time looking at all the photos in the halls. The hotel needs a bit of work, a bit more than the first time I stayed (oct 01). Be warned, there is NO elevator and the check in desk is up three flights of stairs and my room was another two flights up. It was my fault that I packed too heavy! Apparently this hasn't deterred me from coming back. It's not the Ritz by any means, but it's safe and it's a clean place to stay. Who stays at the hotel all day in SF anyway??

Great location in North beach, handy to Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown too. Staff very friendly and helpful and manage to provide useful, suggestive advice without being too pushy or intrusive.

Rooms however are VERY small and quite dark. No clothes iron or in-room safe. Small 14 inch television (mine broke down). In general more like an "Inn" than a Hotel, and although my stay was pleasant enough, $159 plus tax did seem like a bit much to pay for what it was.

An absolute gem. I really can’t recommend this hotel enough.

It’s above a bakery on a busy street in North Beach (the bustling Italian district with lots of great cafes and restaurants). Fisherman’s Wharf and all the other main sights are within a 20 minute walk (downhill!) and Chinatown is five minutes away.

The hotel itself is an oasis of calm in a mad city. The rooms are all individually styled and complementary sherry is served in the lobby in the evenings.

There is no breakfast, but the bakery downstairs is great for coffee and pastries.

The best thing about this hotel is the staff. The guys on the front desk were the most knowledgeable and friendly staff I have ever come across and I’m fairly well travelled. Ask them any question about the city and they can recommend something. They know all the best local restaurants other than the tourist traps and always got us tables. They also know what bars to visit, little markets you wouldn’t otherwise find etc.

Stay here: you won’t be disappointed!
