We stayed at the Beck's for four nights in early July. Room was comfortable and updated - I would suggest requesting one of the renovated rooms. Parking was not a problem and we were always able to find a decent space - did seem to get close to being full at certain points. For what other hotels charge for parking in San Fran, Beck's is a comparative good, not great deal. Useful map of the city at the front desk and there is a deck that overlooks some of Market Strett. Beck's is barely within the Castro District and near the Mission. The F-Street Car line passes on Market and is a good jumping off point to go to the touristy spots near at the piers. Easy to drive to the Haight District and the eastern parks from Beck's if you have a car.
Location is reasonable for restaurants and nightlife. Would recommend the Woodhouse Fish Company, particularly on Tuesdays for the dollar oysters, and the Italian place (Pesce) across the street (Pesce is a bit pricey though). Easy walk to a supermarket or Whole Foods on Market Street. For fans of Karaoke, The Mint Karaoke Lounge is very close by - fun time even if you are not a Karaoke fan.
Rooms was clean and security was generally good. You will sometimes see some characters, part of the fun of San Fran, outside but we always felt safe. Rooms were reasonably quite. Coffee in the room or Pete's Coffee across Market Street.
Really no complaints about Becks and would give it 4 and 1/2 stars - it did seem just a tad pricey, but that's San Fran in the third gilded age.
