“Good place to stay with a car”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014

We stayed at the Beck's for four nights in early July. Room was comfortable and updated - I would suggest requesting one of the renovated rooms. Parking was not a problem and we were always able to find a decent space - did seem to get close to being full at certain points. For what other hotels charge for parking in San Fran, Beck's is a comparative good, not great deal. Useful map of the city at the front desk and there is a deck that overlooks some of Market Strett. Beck's is barely within the Castro District and near the Mission. The F-Street Car line passes on Market and is a good jumping off point to go to the touristy spots near at the piers. Easy to drive to the Haight District and the eastern parks from Beck's if you have a car.

Location is reasonable for restaurants and nightlife. Would recommend the Woodhouse Fish Company, particularly on Tuesdays for the dollar oysters, and the Italian place (Pesce) across the street (Pesce is a bit pricey though). Easy walk to a supermarket or Whole Foods on Market Street. For fans of Karaoke, The Mint Karaoke Lounge is very close by - fun time even if you are not a Karaoke fan.

Rooms was clean and security was generally good. You will sometimes see some characters, part of the fun of San Fran, outside but we always felt safe. Rooms were reasonably quite. Coffee in the room or Pete's Coffee across Market Street.

Really no complaints about Becks and would give it 4 and 1/2 stars - it did seem just a tad pricey, but that's San Fran in the third gilded age.

Becks is perfectly located for easy access to the F line and the sights of San Francisco. The renovated rooms are well appointed and though not huge, more than perfect for 3 of us with tons of luggage.

Bathroom is awesome and beautifully renovated and the shower a real treat.

The wifi is great with multiple access points and we also made use of the laundry which was also top notch.

Would stay here again in a heartbeat and would highly recommend Backs to anybody visiting the city who wanted a great place to stay at very reasonable rates. Free off street parking is a bonus too!

Room Tip: The hotel is U shaped with the opening of the U facing Market street. For a slightly quieter room as...

We first stayed in a hotel in the city since we didn't have a car when we arrived. After we picked up the car we decided to stay an other night and choose this wonderfull place. It was much nicer then the hotel! The newly renovated rooms are very clean, nicelly furnished and bright. The shower is just great. Friendly staff. Good place to wash the cloths. Across the street you can get on the train to center city. Nice restaurants in the neighbourhood. Any time again.

This is the first time I have stayed at Beck's in many years. It has much improved. The rooms were fantastic, both functional and well decorated. Nice sizable bathrooms and comfortable and modern beds. The location has always been fantastic.

Room Tip: Don't select the street room with view, it is noisy on Market street unless you don't mind t...

I travel often to San Francisco for business and got "bumped" to Beck's when my company's other hotels were booked. What a fabulous discovery! I'm now requesting it for business and have stayed once for a leisure trip to SF. Only drawback is it's in a noisy neighborhood (but very few commercial districts in the city quiet.) Beck's is an easy walk to many amazing places including Farina, Tartine, Delfina and Bi-Rite, not to mention a number of excellent less known eateries in the Mission. The street car is a two minute walk for an easy trip to downtown. Parking is free - enough said. The renovated rooms are great and very comfortable. The staff is courteous, conscientious and always available for recommendations or suggestions.

Beck's has a reputation from the past that is just that: History. While many people think of it as a cruisy, cheap motel of the 70s-90s, the new owners have totally re-done the rooms and the outside. The rooms are large, well-furnished, and comfortable. Beds are excellent. Rooms facing 15th are very quiet. Security is good. And parking is FREE. For the price and the location, this place is hard to beat. We are and will continue to be repeat visitors.

Room Tip: Rooms further in back or facing 15th will be quieter. 3rd floor (top) is of course quieter.

We stayed at Beck's recently and found it to be a good bargain (as bargains go in San Francisco) and a very pleasant stay. We were given one of the newly remodeled rooms. Think European in style. Although very "cozy" we found it to be more than adequate for our needs, as we spent most of the day we stayed there walking around the city. The room was quite clean, quiet, and the motel very easy to find. Also, there is a lot going on in this area, being the convergence of the Castro, the Mission, the Duboce Triangle, and nearby, the Haight. Public transportation is within a short walk, and there are numerous restaurants and shopping opportunities right within the neighborhood.

Our only complaint (and not bad enough to warrant a decrease in the rating) was that we were not able to get cups or drinking glasses delivered to our room for either of the two nights we stayed. It's possible that because the room was essentially a new addition to the motel, the cleaning staff was unclear on how to stock the room. At any rate, this was a very minor detail and I mention it only to make sure the staff (who were very friendly, btw) know that little details do make a difference.

There is no breakfast at Becks, but you can find a number of breakfast options nearby, including Squat and Gobble, Cafe Flore, Chow on Church St., Thorough Bread Bakery, and several other cafes and coffee shops.

Beck's is likely the best bargain in the city!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the motel back up to Noe St., which is a fairly quiet residential street.
