This hotel/motel is in a fantastic location with the streetcar stopping just outside the property. Lots of bars and restaurants in the area. The room was spotless and the staff were extremely nice and helpful. Will definately come back

If you are looking for a good value motor lodge in the upper-market/castro area that is no frils with free parking then here you go. Room was clean, with all the amenites that you would expect from a budget motor lodge. If you are looking for high quality place then I would keep on driving, but you will pay for it elsewhere. Great location also.

We've stayed here many times, mainly because it is within walking distance to Castro and possibly the only decent hotel in the area with parking. And prices are reasonable (for San Fransisco).

It's basically a "motel 6" decor. Several rooms have been renovated over the past couple of years and are usually clean. Showers now have decent restricted-flow heads and the tiny soap dishes are not falling off the wall. The cable is Comcast with lots of channels (better than a lot of big chain hotels). Security has improved with installation of key-activated doors to enter the stairs, which used to be accessible by anyone off the street.

Main irritations: all the TVs are old tube type with terrible pictures. Many of the small frigs are missing shelf brackets which limits usable space. Being right on Market, be prepared for sounds (trolleys, sirens) at night.

Many decent restaurants are in easy walking distance. Trolley stops are within 1/2-1 block, which makes it easy to get to downtown and elsewhere. Cabs are not expensive and the desk will call for you. Typically 30 minutes or so to get to SFO by shuttle. If the hotel is full, don't count on finding a parking space on your return in the evening. Better to take cab or trolley.

If you plan a trip for Gay Pride or one of the street festivals (Castro, Dore Alley, Folsom), reserve well in advance (6 months) and expect a minimum stay requirement and higher rates.

Room Tip: The rooms over the laundry (217 &218) tend to be warmer - an advantage if you are not used to SF...

Thank you for your repeat business! You are right, our location is fantastic. I wanted to let you know that we are in the process of upgrading our TVs to flat screens - with more than half of our rooms (rooms with king size beds) having the upgraded TVs.

I've always wanted to check out Beck’s but for whatever reason never had… and I’m sorry I hadn’t! It is all about location! Location-location-location!!! I don’t do much when I travel, as I’m on a work-clock, so location for me means everything. Beck’s is walking distance to everything I do. Peet’s Coffee is across the street. Out-of-the-Closet is two blocks down. Safeway and Mollie-Stone’s Markets are available… the Castro! Need I say more? Safe area, no downtown crazy. Plus – what I anticipated was going to be a sleazy room… was actually pretty much great for the price! Satellite TV, mini-refrigerator, comfy bed… I was very happy and immediately booked my next stay.

Standard Motor Lodge - not luxurious but absolutely adequate and good value.
Rooms were spacious and clean.
Great location for The Castro and is on main tram line to bay area.
You can walk to bars and restaurants in the Castro.
Would resommend.

Room Tip: Right in the middle of Castro

I think it was a really ok place to live at, not so expensive and a good area. They cleaned the rooms every day and give you new towels each time. It is a bit loud, you hear easily people if they are talking outside the door or screams down at market street and the cars down the street. The room had a bit of weird smell. But altogether I would totally recommend it! And the bar Blackbird nearby!

this is not a fancy gay B&B or resort , it is a motor lodge. The bed was comfortable, the room clean the best part is the price..very cheap for the castro area just a short walk to the gay golds gym, the castro shops and dinning choices. right on the F line the cable car that will take you to fisherman's wharf ....perfect location.

Room Tip: rooms on the east side that face the street can be a bit noisy..did not bother me but you could hear...

Thanks for your review. Many guests love seeing the street car pass by, but for those who don't, we offer our King Deluxe rooms. These are located in the back of the property and are extremely quiet. We look forward to seeing you next time!

All the best,

Brittney
