Owner description: This electric neighborhood of 100,000 people is not to be missed, and it's not hard to find: listen for the clack of mahjongg tiles and nose out the salty spicy squid.

“Two days out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2013

What can i say, we live in Wales, and this place is bigger than our town. It is great .The character of the buildings, people , at night time it is so pretty. We spent two days visiting all the shops, and if you like chinese food, well what can i say, i thought my husband was going to look like a spare rib. This is a must see place, be prepared to walk as it covers a big area, which leads straight onto the Italian district, Yes thats right time for spagettiiiiiiiiii. Enjoy.

“Feels like Hong Kong! ”

Huge Chinatown with the biggest population of Chinese people outside of China. Interesting to walk around and soak in the atmosphere. Very colourful and vibrant part of the city.

“Little China in SF”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

This must be one of the biggest china towns in the US. Very close to Union Square. You can either walk of jump on the cable car from the Square to reach. Distinctive structure of main gate will tell you are there. Walk all the way along the main street. Gift shops and all kind of Chinese items are sold at the stores along the main street. Best shops are in the middle part of the main street. You would spend at least 2 hours walking around China town.

“Smells terrible and dirty”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

Well, one of the reasons we visited China town was to actually go and eat at one of the authentic Chinese restaurants,
Wow not a chance, couldn't force myself to eat where the windows are dirty along with the floors etc. If the areas you can see are dirty, I cant imagine the ones not exposed to the public would be like.
Sadly, speaking to the locals, my perceptions are not uncommon.

“Something to do”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

First time in SF and everyone said try Chinatown. Don't really see what all the hype was all about but at least we can say we checked it off our San Fran trip to do. They have some really cheap deals on little stuff to take back home. We stayed down in the Downtown/Union Square area so it was pretty close. We took the bus to Chinatown and then walked back. So if you are near, I say check it out to check it off your list but I wouldn't make a special trip down there.
