Owner description: This electric neighborhood of 100,000 people is not to be missed, and it's not hard to find: listen for the clack of mahjongg tiles and nose out the salty spicy squid.

“Must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013 via mobile

Every time I visit SF I enjoy spending some time in Chinatown. The Chinese New Year celebrations was going on this last visit so that added to the uniqueness. You actually feel like you are in China for awhile. Make sure an try the food, as you may see some things you haven't seen before. The Peking Duck hanging in windows of several restaurants is very good. And most of the items you can buy in the stores are not only unique but cheap

“A small chinese community in San Francisco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

You must visit this area when you are in San Francisco It is unique in it´s atmosphere. Street signs are in Chinese, Chinese newspapers etc. makes this area an exciting experience, almost like being in China.
You can eat authentic Chinese food and drink Chinese beer. If you are into meditation you can join in when people gather for their morning exercise outdoors.
Some shops have a original chines food, fresh fish, some are alive in the shops, and a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables you do not find in American shops.

“Be sure to leave the beaten path”

Skip past the touristy souvenir shops. Grab a steamed bun and be sure to stop at the tiny Fortune Cookie Factory off a back alley. (Plain better than the chocolate.)

“Touristy but fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

Since Chinatown was just 2 blocks from our motel we went for a stroll, did some shopping & picked up some inexpensive gifts, had a wonderful lunch at Nan King. Enjoyed it so much we went back the next day to do more shopping.
