“Great View”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

Panoramic view of the City and the Bay from its elevated position. Quite a pull up the hill to it though so suggest you take the bus that goes round there evry half hour from the Fisherman's Wharf area.

“Gorgeous, Peaceful Views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

Coit Tower is worth the climb up the steep hill! Even from the top of the hill, at the base of this monument, you can see great things & take in a peaceful glimpse of the bustling city. The real views, however, are clear up top. You purchase tickets to ride the elevator up & can see some pretty cool stuff up there. I would save this for the end of your trip, as it's fun to play "I Spy" & try to find all the places you've been in the city from up top.

“This place is a gem for view-lovers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

If you walk here be prepared for hills and lots of steps, but at least a lift will take you up the tower! There is a car park and a bus up to the tower. Small place with gift shop at the bottom and lift to the top. Amazing 360degree views of the city so go when there is no fog if you can - you can see alcatraz, both bridges, lombard street etc etc. the top of the tower is within stone walls, they have glazed the windows (otherwise it would be arctic up there!) but my camera got some great pics through the glass. A lesser known gem for a sunny day.

“Historic Murals”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Lilian Hitchcock Coit was quite the character, loved to chase fires and her place in San Francisco history is evident in the tower built after her death. It took 5 years to build from reinforced concrete and stands as an Art Deco monument resembling a firehose. What drew me in were the murals. They were commissioned in 1933 as one of the first of the New Deal federal employment programs for artists. There historic significance gained after Diego Rivera's Man at the Crossroads mural was destroyed by its Rockefeller Center patrons for the inclusion of an image of Lenin. The Coit Tower muralists protested, picketing the tower in solidarity with Rivera and influenced the incorporation of leftist ideas and composition elements in their works. The park and murals are free but there is a fee if you want to go to the top of the tower. The view is 360 degress of San Francisco of course only stunning when there is no fog. From the tower stroll down the Filbert steps to view sweet little cottage homes and gardens.

“the walk will take your breath away too”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

It's a nice walk up to Coit Tower. The views from the walk alone are amazing. I would recommend doing the walk up there but not to take the $8 dollar elevator ride up to the viewing platform. You can get almost the same view from the outside and save yourself the money, plus it's hard to take pictures in the tower because its entirely enclosed by windows that are dirty from everyones fingerprints.
