Owner description: Experience the Exploratorium, a hands-on museum of science, art, and human perception that's dedicated to the excitement of experimentation, the pleasure of discovery, and the power of play. Indulge your curiosity in over 600 exhibits-indoors and out-and explore eye-opening ways to understand the world around you. Don't miss the iconic Tactile Dome, where you can take an interactive excursion in total darkness using your sense of touch as your only guide (be sure to make a reservation in advance). There's also a unique museum store plus two delicious places to eat: the SeaGlass restaurant, which has a stunning Bay view, and the Seismic Joint cafe. Located at Pier 15 along San Francisco's Embarcadero between Pier 39 and the Ferry Building, the Exploratorium is easy to get to by public transportation (the F-Market & Wharves Historic Streetcar stops out front and it's a ten-minute walk from BART or MUNI) plus there's parking nearby. Tickets are available online (recommended) or at the door.

“so much to do”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2014

I went with my family. kids aged 9 and 6. this kept my kids busy all day. they really loved this place. so many buttons to push. they were learning about science without realizing it. there are over 600 exhibits geared towards science. it was a very busy place to visit, so its hard to keep track if you have a child that likes to wander.

“After Dark - Science Fiction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2014

We went on a Thursday night to the After Dark series for adults 18+ and had a blast. We had no idea what to expect as this was our first time there. The museum was very busy. It was confusing at first which line to be in to use our City Pass. You have to convert your City Pass ticket to a ticket at the box office unlike the other attractions. They had many extra displays and demonstrations. We enjoyed the short fact or fiction films shown at the end of night. Also, you could buy alcohol which was a nice touch and organic soda. We ran out of time and there was no possible way to see all the exhibits during our visit.

“Interesting, but full of kids”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

This is an excellent option if you travel with kids, other wish, it can be a quite noisy experience. The museum invites you to experience and interact with many artifacts. Well explained and presented.

“Great day for children and adults alike!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

The Exploratorium in San Francisco is one of the best days out we had on our holidays. It is a interactive science museum with the focus very heavily on getting kids to touch feel and manipulate all the different exhibits to spark their curiosity. We had our two boys with us (ages 8 & 12) and they each spent the day moving from exhibit to exhibit trying things out and asking questions. Equally my husband and I enjoyed each part every bit as much. The exhibits covered everything from electricity to light to perception, animation, lasers, biology and much much more. I have only two complaints. We arrived at 10:30 am and when the gong went at 5pm to empty the building we couldn't believe how the day had flown by. I would recommend they stay open longer if possible. Secondly we had our lunch in the restaurant there which was quite pricey. The up side of that however was that it was easy to get a table and not too much of a line! I would recommend this attraction to anyone who plans to visit San Francisco with children especially. We had bought SF CITYPASS vouchers for out trip and the Exploratorium is included on this pass. The attraction is also very easy to find as it is on Pier 15 and the F-Line stops right outside. If you have a CITYPASS you travel free on the F-Line for a week. The F-Line is like a city car or electric bus so the kids get a kick from the journey also.
