We would not recommend this hotel to anyone, in fact very much the opposite! We were due to stay for three nights at the end of September 2008 but could not bring ourselves to stay even one night. When we got into the room, after a not too positve welcome at reception, we found it very dirty. The sheets did not look like they had been changed, the phone(not working) was covered with grease and food remnants, a leak was evident in the main bedroom area from the roof and the toilet did not seem fit for its purpose. The man at reception was non too helpful, in fact quite the opposite and the breakfast area (in the main reception area) looked like it was going to be first come first served and not too hygienic. I presume you were to get what you could and take it with you or back to your room.
The advert we saw stated there was tea/coffe making facilities in the room and there were none, but there was a micro wave!We had to leave and get to another hotel.

I booked this hotel in january and was pretty worried after more and more bad comments appeared. I have to say, I can´t agree with most of them. We arrived there and the door was open, no signs about 15 minutes until no more refunds or whatever. The receptionist was nice. We (4 persons) got room number 32. When we came in it smelled a little dusty for like 2 seconds, after that it was fine. Everything was clean. Sure, the caulk in the bathroom wasn´t the nicest anymore, the same with the sink and toilet but we are easy going travellers and that didn´t bother us at all since it was at least clean. The cleaner woman was very nice, gave us a lot of towels and soap and shampoo, more than we actually needed. Breakfast was ok, bagels, toast, some different kinds of muffins or little cakes with coffee, orange juice, water and butter, margarine, marmelade and cream cheese. On our first day the toaster broke down, but was replaced one day later. It was indeed a little weird not to have any chairs, though. We didn´t have a laptop, so no idea about the wireless but there was a computer with free internet access in the lobby. I again emphasize that we are simple travellers, happy with some comfort and a clean room. We stayed for 10 days and once there was a lot of noise from the room above us, otherwise it was fine. For the very small price we paid compared to all the other hotels (they are a motor hotel!) it was absolutely fine. If you want more, pay more and take another hotel!

Actually, we didn't even stay one night. We were reserved to stay two nights, but as we pulled up the driveway, we thought "what have we done?" The reception was a dingy room where you need to press the doorbell to get buzzed in. A glass window separated the receptionist from the customers, just like a drive through bank. Makes you wonder about the neighborhood. The receptionist asked for payment up front, which wasn't a good sign. We asked to see the room first before paying. The room was still being cleaned, but just one look and one smell, and we were out of there! The bed spread was thrown on the filthy carpet. The room smelled of old cigarettes, mold and mildew. I understand that they were still in the process of cleaning out the room, but I don't think you could get it cleaned enough. The outside of the hotel was so old and dreary looking, with cracks in the driveway and parking lot where weeds were growing through. Like something out of a horror movie. We booked here, even though we read the bad reviews, since their website stated "newly renovated in 2007!", so we thought it shouldn't be that bad. If they call this newly renovated, I wonder what it looked like before they renovated! It might be a little cheaper than other hotels in the Boston area, but seriously, I would not recommend to stay there. Better to pay a little more and get something better.

We stayed here for 2 nights for a graduate school interview. Being
people that don't care for hanging out in the hotel, it was acceptable.

The biggest problem was standing in the lobby for 15 minutes as the two people at the front desk chatted, completely ignoring us. Finally, after checking in, we discovered ants in the bathroom, to which nothing has been done about.

There was no plug near the hangers (for steaming my clothes), which wasn't so fabulous. The TV also, after about 45 minutes, turns down to mute and you have to turn it off than on to make it work again.

Being smokers, we were not bothered by the burns in the comforter, but I could see where others would be.

So what do you do when you have a reporter and a camera man are going to be looking for a room in the middle of the night in Boston, and you can only book from a distance? Precisely, you try the online miracle called Expedia.

Presidents City Inn was the only place available at a reasonable price, as Boston was hosting a conference and everything was booked. In a hurry, and trying to find a roof for my crew, I booked it: 2 single rooms. Expedia provided me with a confirmation.

Reporter and camera man arrived in Boston in the middle of the night. They had read the forwarded hotel confirmation and took a taxi to the hotel, ready to each spend some precious hours of sleep, each in a booked and confirmed single room.

The hotel manager however told them that there was only one room available. Asked how this could be as there was a confirmation for two single rooms, the manager shrugged and told he couldn't help. Oh, there would be an "extra" room, if one of my colleagues was ready to spend the night in a dirty room. Of course, they declined, as even 3rd world countries offer better hospitality. No-one who is serious about hotel business is going to offer a dirty room to someone who has a confirmed booking.

I called the hotel manager after receiving messages that the booking obviously was bogus. He excused himself in bad English (even noticable to me, a non-native English speaker), and kept on the surface. He assured me though that nothing would be substracted from the credit card.

Today however, it was confirmed that the booked room price was substracted and getting it refunded is going to be rather impossible.

I'm disappointed by the hotel. I'm also disappointed by Expedia, as they obviously don't care who gets affiliated.

Even if you are desperate, don't book Presidents City Inn.

If you are ever going to book thru Expedia, make sure you read the hotel reviews. But I'd rather advice you to cut out Expedia and just book yourselves, directly.

  • Liked — that it's likely to close due to all bad reviews
  • Disliked — the fact that they stole my money and didn't offer anything
