“A great base to explore Arcadia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Before I start the review a few hints. Don’t even bother selecting this hotel if you aren’t going to choose a room with the fantastic views (there are better options in town). Secondly use the restaurant attached to the complex for breakfast only (you get the same amazing viewpoint for a fraction of the cast and underwhelming cuisine of dinner and lunch) oh and get there early for the morning colours and avoidance of queues.

This hotel is all about location and the location is all about the view over the islands. The hotel is pleasant but not exceptional for the prices charged (which can be very steep) and is convenient for the roads to Arcadia. It’s situated on a hill above town so if you’re dinning in the evening cabs or cars are the best bet as dinning options are limited in the hotel. It’s possible to walk into town as well but there are no street lights for part of the way so bring a torch for the way back.

Well that enough about the location what about the rooms.. Well in honestly there not much to report. There’re clean with horribly fussy trim details that try in vain to put you off the view. I’ll pray it’s not foggy when you’re there!

Thank you for your comments regarding your visit to the Bluenose Inn. Like you, we feel that one of our stronger selling points is the fantastic view. Situated on the hill, the vistas are quite dramatic and frankly never is something one tires of.
Bar Harbor prides itself in being one of the best places in the US to see the stars and thus has very restrictive lighting codes. We should have offered you flashlights to walk back from town after dark.
We do hope that when your travel plans bring you back to New England you will think of us again. We truly appreciate your business and indeed look forward to seeing you sometime in the future.

My husband and I and our son, daughter-in-law and grandson had a wonderful fall visit at The Bluenose. The hotel is up on a hill and has magnificent views of the water. The room was well appointed and very comfortable. We went to the Manager's Reception and had a glass of wine and chatted with the Manager, who was very friendly and hospitable!
We loved the food and really enjoyed listening to the piano player in the lounge. We will be back!

A great location. Friendly welcome at reception. We were here for two nights on our New England holiday.

Bar Harbor is a lovely town right on the edge of the Acadia National Park.

The large room was excellent if a bit warm to start with. Very clean and tidy with good facilities. We ate on the restaurant up the hill which is a short stagger from the rooms. Great views. The food was excellent and reasonably priced.

We didn't have time to try the Spa facilities.

The name Bluenose is sometimes used as a name for fans of Glasgow Rangers FC in Scotland, which I am not!

We would certainly return here.

Thank you for your excellent comments regarding The Bluenose Inn. I have passed them along to our staff as well. I did not know about the Scottish football term. My maternal grandparents were named MacDonald so shame on me.
We do hope that when your travel plans bring you back to New England, you will come back. We truly appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you in the future.

Very large room with wonderful view across the water where the cruise ships moored.A small balcony with chairs as well as the main window area.Dined once at the restaurant which was up a hill from the main hotel. It was rather cold looking or ultra modern I suppose. The food was very fancy which I liked but my husband did not.The following evening we walked into Bar Harbour a fifteeen minute walk through the back of the hotel grounds to cut a large corner off.Would stay here again.Only disappointment was no cappuccinoes on sale.

Room Tip: A high floor in the main hotel building overlooking the bay.

Thank you for your comments regarding your visit to the Bluenose Inn. I am very pleased that you enjoyed your room but disappointed that your husband did not enjoy his meal at our restaurant.
We will have cappacinno in the future by the way.
I do hope that you return to see us when your travel plans bring you back to New England. We truly appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you again When you return, your husband's dinner is on us and we will find something he likes.

We stayed at the Bluenose Inn this week during a tour of coastal Maine. This was our favorite hotel of the week. It is beautiful with gorgeous views of the islands and harbor. We stayed in an upper floor room that faced the harbor and ocean. It was a large lovely room with a fireplace and spacious sitting area and a private balcony. The bathroom was luxurious with two sinks and a vanity stool and separate toilet/shower room. The light fixtures and wall sconces are sparkling cut glass. We felt very indulged. Downstairs in the Great Room are large comfortable sofas and chairs, massive fireplace and bar, and a baby grand piano. The night we were there the piano player was performing mostly classical music. We ate dinner and breakfast at the Looking Glass restaurant on property and both were good. The staff was very friendly. We didn't have enough time to try out the Eden Spa, but if we come back we will stay longer and enjoy more of the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony ocean view room.

The Coast of Maine is exceptionally lovely-thank you so much for saying we were your favorite stop! We do have spectacular views on our hillside overlooking Frenchman Bay, I'm delighted you had the opportunity to stay with us and enjoy them. I'm happy to hear that you were able to visit the Great Room & The Looking Glass and hope you'll get to the spa next time! We appreciate you choosing to share your experience on TripAdvisor.

The Bluenose in Bar Harbor offers a terrific view of the harbor and the town from the higher floors on the Mizzentop building. We stayed at the Bluenose celebrating our wedding anniversary. They offer a discount proportional to the number of years you are married. Even with the discount the Bluenose is not inexpensive. We were greeted with a nice hand written card from the manager and some chocolate at check in. Shortly after getting to our room, they delivered a bottle of sparkling cider on ice and wine glasses Our two room suite featured a King Bed, which was very comfortable. The bathroom was large and offered a small refrigerator, microwave and a Keurig. The room was very clean and nicely furnished, but honestly the room reminded me of my Grandmother’s house, with an over abundance of floral, pink and blue. While the room was very clean, you don’t get the impression that it has been updated in several years. Breakfast is not included in the room price, which at $400/night I think would have been a nice touch. The separate living room offered a gas fireplace and a love seat and HD TV. A sliding door leads to a small private porch with two chairs, which offers a great place to enjoy quiet time in the morning or evening and provides a great view of Bar Harbor. If you enjoy piano music the hotel has live music each evening in the grand room, near the lobby and small gift shop on the first floor. They offer sandwiches, lobster rolls and hors d oeuvres at the bar in the great room. The entire Bluenose staff was very friendly and we enjoyed our three days in Bar Harbor. The Bluenose is located about 1 mile from either the entrance to Acadia National Park or the down town area offering many restaurants and local shops. There are many other hotels within a few blocks of the Bluenose, some looked very nice, however the views would not appear to be as nice as what the Bluenose offers. A new hotel in downtown could give the Bluenose some competition, however it would appear to be in a much nosier location with a many restaurants and bar very close by. The next time in Bar Harbor we certainly will consider staying at the Bluenose again, but for the money, I may check into another hotel.

Room Tip: Spend the extra for the forth floor for the view, third view may be obstructed by trees. End of the...

Staff is helpful and rooms on the fourth floor look out on the Bay. The suite is a perfect home base for a post high season stay. Lots of nice thoughtful touchs including lovely toiletries , large indoor pool, Paul Newman coffees. Sparkling cleanliness and friendly reception. "Great Room" will appeal to the senior set but one stop amenities make the hotel good for national park visitors wanting some destination comforts.

Thank you for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor-we appreciate feedback from our guests. The Bluenose is a great place to stay when enjoying Acadia National Park & Bar Harbor-a day of hiking and biking combined with a spa visit or a soak in our hot tub is the best of both worlds! All of our rooms do have views of Frenchman Bay, but the 4th floor of Mizzentop is superb. We hope you'll stay with us again.
