“Clean, comfortable & good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2012

Although modest on first impressions, this hotel/ motel is definately value for money.
Our room was very clean, comfortable and quiet, & the attention to detail & maintenance were obvious.
Little extras, not provided in other USA hotels, were all there.
The home cooked cookies on arrival were an added bonus.
Breakfast was the usual Holiday Inn menu, however the attention to hygiene is to be praised.
The lady supervising was welcoming, entertaining and a wealth of information.

I was expecting just your average hotel experience but was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean and well maintained. We didn't spend much time in the room so I just wanted something that was clean and I got it. The only thing odd in the room was a college size fridge that was placed in the middle of the room. The remote was dead - but I can't really complain about that.

I never use the pool at a hotel. Maybe it was the weather, being both cold and warm on days, but the pool was calling. I used the hot tub on several nights and the pool several days. The hot tub is oddly situated in the middle of everything, but it was still relaxing.

The breakfast was your standard below par buffet breakfast. Skip it and head to 2 Cats or The Cafe This way for the same price and a much better meal.

The lobster pound is very close, but pricey. I would not recommend it except for the views.

Just got back from a 3 day trip to Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park. We chose this hotel as we have stayed at other Holiday Inns and have been very satisfied. There are two things to make note of before you book this hotel:
- There is no continental breakfast served as in other Holiday Inns
- There are two buildings at this hotel - main building and a building across the main lobby.

A week before arriving at the hotel, I requested the two rooms we reserved to be adjacent to each other. As we arrived at the hotel after a 10 hour drive, we were looking forward to being greeted with a smile. On the contrary, the bellman just looked at us and didn't even offer to bring a trolley. As we were checking in, the lady at the counter seemed to be new and confused. She told us we were not in the main building, but the other building across the hotel. When we requested to be in the main building, at first she said she could accommodate us and then suddenly changed her mind. She gave us the key and didn't even bother to give us directions or a map of the building we were supposed to go to. My parents unloaded the car onto the trolley and the bellman didn't even offer to help. He could see two middle-aged people pushing a trolley and he didn't even offer to help. When we asked him to direct us to our building, he said he had no idea. WHAT??? Why are you working here if you can't even help your guests?? I was already so turned off. After waiting our turn again, we asked the manager if anyone could help us. The manager gave us a map and directions to our building. He didn't even call the bellman to help us out. He just told us to unload the trolley back into the car and drive to the building. We were so pissed off by that time that we simply rolled the trolley and found our way around.

Customer Service - one of the worst I have seen.

Pros:
- Less than 5 minutes drive to the Acadia National Park
- About 2-3 minutes drive to downtown Bar Harbor
- Enough parking

Overall - I am glad we did not stay in the main building as we did not have to encounter the front desk or the bellman during our trip. We would go to our room, rest, and head out again. If being treated nicely by the staff is a priority for you, then I would avoid this hotel. If you only need a place to crash after a long day of sightseeing and hiking, then this could be a decent stay.

Room Tip: Make sure to check if you are placed in the main hotel or the building across.

We've stayed here twice, 1st in Sept. '10 (right after the President!), and again in June of 11. Had a great time both trips. The grounds are stunning and the views over the ocean are beautiful. The rooms are a little worn, but they are very clean and large enough to relax in and include a cube fridge. The free shuttle to town stops at the hotel about every 15 minutes (it's a hike to town) so you don't have to drive at all once you check in. The best feature of the hotel is its location. The view from the pool (which is heated and very big) is absolutely breathtaking. My son and I were swimming one chilly drizzly day and even saw a bald eagle land in a pine above the pool - A great memory! The hot tub by the pool is boiling hot and tucked in the landscape of the wild rose bushes. The tiki bar restaurant is right by the pool and the food and drinks were good if a bit pricey. There is a lobster pound on the dock which is excellent but expensive, but we ate there on both trips anyway. Plus Bar Harbor and Acadia are minutes away. Highly recommended!

We stopped here during our visit to Bar Harbor and were pleasantly surprised. It's old fashioned, but does the trick. I'd stay here again.

We stayed in the building across from the main hotel, like some of the other reviewers, it isn't anything special. We did feel safe, and if it is nice enough to get out and walk and if you didn't have a room w/a view of the bay, it had pretty grounds. Check in was fast, but the staff seemed more concerned about the guests that could afford rooms in the main part of the hotel. We did not eat there, it was a bit pricey. But I would stay again if I ever get the chance to go back to Bar Harbor.
