I wish to bestow my highest commendation on the staff at the Best Western Acadia Park Inn in Bar Harbor, Maine. They not only made our stay a warm and friendly experience - they truly saved our vacation. Manager Jane Koehling never has to worry about how her guest are being treated while she is away from the front desk, attending to the many duties of her position. Her fellow staff members take care of everyone who comes through the door just like family. I quite honestly have never encountered anything like it before, and I am a well-traveled individual.
My wife, Olga and I had just escaped from a rather poorly run Days Inn just a mile away. "If you like loud drunken Harley riders sitting outside your grossly undersized room that is swelteringly hot due to faulty air conditioning, then the Days Inn might be just what you are looking for." It was after 10:00 pm and we had no place to stay, but we were not going to remain captives of our previous jailers. So, we drove down the road until we saw the bright and friendly "Best Western" sign.
I was certain that they would not be able to accommodate us at such a late hour and during the Fourth of July holiday week, but I bravely walked in the front door to make the first of what I expected to be many ubiquitous inquiries in my search for shelter. I was met by Teenia Colby and Cassandra Guyette at the front desk. They could both see the look of desperation and anguish that clouded my face. When I asked if they had availabilities for the night, they both went to work to take care of my wife and I. They were very sympathetic to our previous experience and they offered us cookies and coffee to ease our pain while we waited. Half way through my cookie, Teenia told me that they had us set up in a wonderful room for the night, and that they would work on helping us arrange additional nights "in spite of the heavy holiday load."
We were originally only going to stay for three days, but we loved the staff - the hotel and the area so much that we actually extended our stay to six days. The "full breakfast" that the hotel provides is way above average thanks to Carole Continental. Sausage, omelets, waffles, coffee, tea, orange juice - and for desert - wonderful advice on what to do and see while you are a guest. Carole is a wonderful person and the perfect guide.
The hotel lobby is much more than just a place to conduct business. It is also a great place to sit and have some of the many different varieties of coffee that they have on hand for their guests. There is a warm atmosphere with plenty of literature on local activities, a TV and a fireplace for the winter months. You are just minutes from one of America's true jewels - "Acadia National Park." You will enjoy exploring the "Wonderland Trail" as much as we did, I am sure.
I also wish to make mention of several more staff members who were directly responsible for not only making our stay a wonderful experience, but who were also a big part of the reason that my wife and I extended our stay. Mary Bennoch, Brandon Cassidy and the unforgettable Joel Raymond are much more than employees. They are warm and friendly people who truly embody the spirit of hospitality in all they do. My wife and I can't wait to see all of our new friends again very soon. The entire staff of the Best Western Acadia Park Inn go out of their way to make you feel like more than just a guest - they make you feel like one of the family.
