“Great location & breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012 via mobile

The innkeepers were so helpful! They have so many books, brochures and knowledge of all kinds of things to do on the island. Breakfast was creative and delicious (we even bought their cookbook). The room was nice but the bed was a little uncomfortable. Even so we would probably stay again.

Pros: GREAT location, clean, nice touches throughout rooms, breakfast was tasty.
Cons: As stated in previous posts, Roger, the owner, is not Mr. Personality. We read that going into the place and it is true. Pat is very friendly but they are an older couple and seem to like things their way. Breakfast was tasty but the only options are what they served you. I felt like I needed to be quiet like I was at the library.
I would suggest finding another friendlier place near this location.

Pat and Roger made our experience just wonderful. As two grown adults, we thought the idea of staying in Graycote Inn might feel like you were in someones home and uncomfortable. Well, we were in someones home, but we did not feel uncomfortable in the least! It was fun to be able to get up and eat a breakfast made from scratch by Roger and Pat and have coffee served to you early in the morning. The rooms are filled with beautiful comforters and bedding, and each room has it's own distinctive style. The next time we are down in Bar Harbor, we will be staying in one of the rooms with a fireplace. As business owners, we don't get out as often as we like, but our time out was well spent at the Graycote.

Room Tip: Try to book one of the rooms with a fireplace. Well worth it.

We are visiting the Graycote Inn in Bar Harbor, Maine for the eighth year. Each visit is better than the last. The innkeepers are so pleasant and friendly -- welcoming and open with very knowledgable advice about everything in the village and all of Mount Desert Island. Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful inn!

Room Tip: The Carriage House is fabulous!

This was the rudest couple we met in the whole state of Maine! We were traveling with another couple and when we arrived, Roger scolded us for parking in the wrong place - there were no signs and we were new guests. He was cleaning the fireplace ashes, kept his back to us and never got up to welcome us. Pat was unfriendly and when we asked about getting fans in the rooms, she said there weren't any and we didn't need them. Then we noticed there were no TVs in any of the rooms so we asked, and we were yelled at. At that point, we said NO thanks, we'll cancel our rooms. The house smelled old and damp, it didn't feel clean, and I got the feeling our private conversations would have been monitored. This was THE strangest, most uncomfortable experience ever. We drove across the street and stayed two nights at the Harbor Bar Inn. It was great. Thanks, Graycote "hosts," for making us feel so unwelcomed that we went to your competitors and had a lovely stay there. I agree with other reviews - I believe the good ones were written by Pat and Roger. There's no way they could be good hosts. We didn't catch them on a bad day, they must be rude all the time.

Room Tip: Scary and rude inn keepers

This was our second stay at the Graycote Inn. We had very much enjoyed our visit a couple of years ago and looked forward to visiting again. We were not disappointed. The rates are reasonable and vary depending on season and length of stay. A beautiful and tasty served breakfast is included as well as snacks in late afternoon. The rooms are large, well furnished with beautiful period furnishings and top grade linen. Guests can also use the spacious dining room and sitting room throughout the day. There is lots of reading material for the weary tourist. Pat and Roger, the hosts, go out of their way to anticipate their guests' needs and are very forthcoming with suggestions for activities and places to eat. Great place to stay.

Room Tip: The Cadillac room is on the ground floor and easier to access if mobility is restricted.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary in Maine. The B&B was very charming and we were greeted by Roger upon our arrival with a 10 minute tour. Since we visited off season, many restaurants and stores were not open yet or had limited hours. It was very nice that the innkeepers had put together a list of all places in Bar Harbor with their days and hours of operation. Also, the innkeepers had a lot of information and literature on Acadia. The breakfast was well done with good food. Our room was charming with a fireplace which was nice at night.
