“Really liked this place.”

Nice little restaurant. We sat outside on a cool night but they had heaters that worked very well to keep us warm. Nice little bar inside with nice selection of local beers. Food was really good.

“Three Time a Charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

Before visiting Bar Harbor, I had read the Trip Adviser reviews and looked at the website for this restaurant and knew we'd want to eat here. The bonus was that it was right next door to our hotel. We decided to eat there on our second night in Bar Harbor. We made a last minute reservation as we were heading back to our room from touring the park, but told the person at the desk that if there was space at the bar when we came for dinner, we'd prefer to eat there. When we went back, we were able to sit at the bar and had a wonderful meal -- Brian, the owner, recommended a very nice bottle of wine that was less expensive than the one my husband had initially selected. The food was great and we met some lovely people at the bar. We started with the chicken liver pate then both had the bistro steak. The appetizer and the steaks were perfect. We liked McKay's so much that we ended up going back 2 more times for dinner. We found the food to be creative and well executed. Over the next 2 visits, we enjoyed the portabella piccata, salmon with bourbon bacon jam over pesto, duck confit spring rolls, pasta purses with mushroom, and the shepherd's pie. Everything we tried was outstanding.

Service, both at the bar and in the dining room one night, was attentive and polished. The owner, Brian, appears to be very hard-working and hands on -- and very personable. Prices are very reasonable, too. We were always suprised when we got the bill -- expected it to be higher for such great food and drink! The restaurant is also quite lovely - the front garden is magical. We also appreciated the guitarist playing in the garden.

We thought McKay's was a real class act and we look forward to sampling more delights from the menu next time we're in Bar Harbor.

“Where have you been all my life??”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

Visited McKay's for the first time in all the years I've been visiting Bar Harbor. Why not before now? Don't know except that they're way on the other end of Main Street, away from everything else on "the strip". Let me tell you, they're not to be missed and will be on my list of things to do for future trips to Bar Harbor. Our server, Theresa, was excellent. A young Jamaican woman (we recognized her because she is just like her mother who we've known for many years from visiting Bar Harbor), Theresa made everyone on the second floor feel like we were all there to have a lot of fun at dinner that evening. Her happy nature and knowledge of the menu made for an excellent experience. Great happy hour prices on drinks and the food was delicious. You have to look carefully to find the place because it's behind some other buildings, but the sign is very visible from the street. You won't be disappointed. Oh, and call to make a reservation. They take walk-ins, but this is a very popular place.

“Highly Recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

As a Bar Harbor local, I am constantly recommending McKay's to my friends and family. This restaurant has it all - atmosphere, food (try the duck confit spring rolls!), drink (impressive beer & wine list) and an owner who really cares. Try it!!
