If Bar Harbor itself hadn't been so amazing and wonderful this would have wrecked our whole weekend.
There has obviously been some money put into redecorating and upgrading their facilities and website.
The outside is lovely and landscaped beautifully. But the inside of the Lobby and our room looked like there was a sale at Tuesday Morning and they bought everything. What a hodge podge of every type of shabby chic, floral pattern and clear out decor it was.
The staff was not rude, but they were just doing their job and no more than that. There wasn't a welcome or any friendly advice upon arrival. We were told that we could park in the check in spot because everyone had already checked in for the evening and then woke up to a nasty note on our windshield the next morning before breakfast.
Our room was a queen with fireplace and it was small and so overcrowded with furniture we could hardly move. The bathroom had a discount Home Depot sink with no counter space. There is nowhere to set anything and it was cold even with the heat lamp on.
The heat lamp and the fireplace are on the noisiest timers imaginable. It feels like your playing a board game waiting for your turn to be over listening to both of them. Hardly relaxing in either case.
We counted over a dozen florals, stripes and patterns in our small room alone. Less is more people!
I have to say I was disappointed. Their website is beautiful and someone very gifted designed it. It set us up so high with expectations that the place itself was a disappointment. We would never go back and wouldn't recommend it to any of our friends.
The bed was a discount mattress that was not upgraded in the renovations and the bedding was substandard. We knew it wasn't going to be the Ritz Carlton, but the website definitely made us think we were going to a Manor and not a motel.
If we had been expecting a motel we might have been satisfied, but this is oversold on the website and we expected far more than it offered.

We appreciate constructive suggestions from our guests and often implement changes based on their feedback. It is difficult, however, to glean much from this guest's comments because they are so mean spirited. We have read thousands of reviews of other properties as well as ours and have rarely come across a review with such unnecessarily nasty commentary. We have a beautiful property, which we are very proud of, and were deeply hurt by these comments. We do however feel obligated to respond to let other potential guests know what to expect when staying at the Bar Harbor Manor.

The guest says that there has obviously been some money put into redecorating and upgrading our facilities and web site. This is true. The Bar Harbor Manor has recently completed a multi-million dollar transformation including renovation of all buildings as well as a beautifully designed landscaping renovation.
It is obvious that this guest's taste in decor differed from the hotel's, however, we find it difficult to understand why a guest would be so insulting simply because of a difference in decorating taste. The guest said they counted over a dozen patterns in their room. This is completely false. Their room had four coordinating patterns - the wallpaper, carpeting, bedspread and valance. The guest also commented on the bedding. All the mattresses at the Bar Harbor Manor are new, first quality brand name mattresses. This guest felt the room was small. When making their reservation this guest indicated that it was a special anniversary and were offered a variety of romantic suites. They opted for the least expensive choice in the inn. Perhaps if they had chosen a suite they would have been happier with the amount of space available. The size of the room they chose is perfectly fine, it seems that these guests were hoping for a free upgrade which was unavailable at check in. The Bar Harbor Manor frequently provides free upgrades when available. With regard to the comment on the temperature of the room, there are three sources of guest-controlled heat in their room. The HVAC system, the fireplace and the heat lamp provide more than enough heat. The room that these guests stayed in was occupied every day prior to and after their stay and there were no complaints about the temperature. We investigated their comment about the noisiness of the timers and found that the fireplace timer did indeed require replacement. It was a minor repair and had they let us know during their stay we could have addressed this problem at that time.
The Bar Harbor Manor is proud of its nicely appointed and tastefully decorated rooms and every day the staff receives several comments from guests complimenting the accommodations. In addition to guest feedback, the Bar Harbor Manor also relies on the very high, objective standards set by AAA. Each year the Bar Harbor Manor must undergo an unannounced, detailed AAA inspection and we are very pleased to pass each year ensuring that our property meets the expectations of our guests. AAA has objective standards covering room decor, ambiance, furnishings, floor space, wall coverings, window coverings and bedding to name a few. This rating indicates that the Bar Harbor Manor appeals to guests with above average expectations.
As owners we have over 35 years of experience in renovating, remodeling and redecorating hotel guest rooms and all decisions regarding room decor are made in partnership with a professional hotel interior design firm. Our taste and design is reflected accurately via our web site. In fact, hundreds of guests each year comment that our web site does not do our property justice. We invite future guests to take a virtual tour of our rooms, suites and the guest parlor to decide for themselves.
With respect to this guest's claim about receiving a nasty note to move their car, I personally wrote the note and it was a polite request to move their vehicle at their convenience. While it is true that at check in the front desk clerk indicated that they could feel free to park in the registration parking spot, the next morning another guest who was elderly and in need of assistance asked to use the registration spot to pack their vehicle. In an effort to accommodate this gentleman's request my note offered them parking in our main lot where there is ample off-street parking at no charge.
Upon check-out, these guests were asked how their stay was and they indicated everything was fine. If they were dissatisfied, they should have voiced their concerns during their stay and we would have tried to resolve them.
While we are deeply disappointed that these guests did not have a positive experience at the Bar Harbor Manor, we feel strongly that many of the criticisms leveled and the manner in which they were expressed were extremely unfair. We work very hard to try to ensure that guests of the Bar Harbor Manor enjoy their accommodations and all that Bar Harbor and Acadia have to offer. We feel confident that future guests who choose to stay with us will be happy with their choice.
