“All you're looking for in a B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2011

This was our first stay at the Hearthside, but certainly not our last. Susan and Barry really know how to run a B&B. Warm greeting upon arrival; roomy, comfortable accomodations; great breakfasts. The location allows you to wander downtown Bar Harobor without worrying about finding a parking spot. Just a few blocks to the free buses to Acadia National Park. Outstanding cookies in the afternoon, coffe and tea available all day. Warm, comfortable common living room with a fireplace on those chilly evenings. Option to eat outside on nice mornings. What more could you ask for?!?

Hearthside Inn provided a calm respite for us in a town that was overrun with throngs of tourists just a couple of blocks away. Our every need was met - a large, cool and quiet room high on the third floor, decorated tastefully with quilts and teddy bear, very comfy bed, afternoon treats and delicious homecooked breakfast, access to a fridge and lots of books and maps on Acadia NP to borrow for our hikes and explorations. Only drawback was the minuscule bathroom-understandable in an historic home-but it was prettily decorated.

This was our first try at a B & B, so we picked a place that was rated 5 out of 5 both online and by personal friends. I guess we are not the B & B type. There was one refrigerator on site, and someone took my soda, twice. Since we wanted to hike in nearby Acadia National Park early and often, we would have preferred to grab an easy breakfast at dawn, (say, oats and juice) with a midmorning fruit/snack on the go and return for the "breakfast" part of the "B" on our own clock. But, alas, breakfast is served at 8 or 9 depending on if you get to the table before it fills up at 8. It seems there is no television to catch the score/news/weather and I did not get to see the end of a movie on hulu.com because the wireless internet is very unreliable. On the plus side, the food was exquisite, the setting picturesque, and the opportunities to chat with strangers satisfying. If you love B & B's, you'll probably love this place! We, on the other hand, will be at a nearby Days Inn!

Room Tip: 1st floor location may have better internet

Susan and Barry made us feel so welcome during our 3 day stay at their B & B. We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet room which was large, clean and very comfortable. The breakfast are excellant, as are the afternoon cookies and cakes. We would reccommend this B & B as a great place to stay in Bar Harbor

My husband and I are repeat guests at the Hearthside, and for good reason. Barry and Susan, the innkeepers, are warm, friendly, funny, informative, and generally delightful to be around. Their B&B, like them, is cozy and comfortable, the rooms charming and clean, the food delicious and varied, and the location, on a quiet side street in the town of Bar Harbor, within easy walking distance of all the shops and restaurants the town has to offer. Whether staying only a night or two or "parking", as we do, for a couple of weeks, I can't imagine a more wonderful place to stay.

This was our first visit to Bar Harbor and we thoroughly enjoyed the stay in the Hearthside. This B & B was in an old house and fully decorated in Victorian spiffy. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the quiet side street, plenty of room and super clean. The WiFi worked perfectly.

Each room has a literary theme - ours was the Wuthering Heights - so be sure to brush up on your Victorian English novels.

Discussions with Susan, the hostess, at breakfast were delightful and the people who were there had been coming to this B & B as long as almost 25 years. Barry, Susan's spouse, is the Omelette Man, even though since he was out of town on a visit to NJ Susan did the omelette, which was great.

Bar Harbor is on the coast of Maine and the town is the jumping off point to Acadia National Park. One morning I got up at 4 am to drive to the top of Cadillac Mountain to take pictures of the sunrise -- along with at least 50 other hearty types. You can see some of my photos at http://facebook.com/daveclarkimages/.

This was the first time our Aunt Susan had ever stayed in a B & B, and she was so delighted we plan to do this again here and elsewhere on our travels.

On this particular trip, I was flying solo, but most times, my husband and I stay here. This B&B was recommended to us after one of our favorite B&Bs in town closed.

Everything about this place suits us to a "T" - location, cleanliness, comfort, convenience, breakfast choices, warm and knowledgeable hosts who provide just the right amount of attention and information and fellow guests who provide lively conversation around the breakfast table each morning!!

You can never go wrong staying at Barry and Susan's! Highly recommended!
