“Excellent service, staff and store.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014 via mobile

Went to this shop to get new helmets for the kids and 2 adults. Very helpful staff to get the right ones and adjust them correctly. Didn't rent bikes , we had ours so can't comment on that. Also bought some clothing and finally ended up bying a new touring bike to replace my old 1994 model. Excellent service from Pete and the rest of the staff, good prices, good equipment and very nice shop.

“Could be a little more helpful!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

We are very inexperienced riders. I will say their equipment and check in/return procedure is very efficient. But they could be a lot more helpful with advice. We asked for the easiest route into the carriage trails and a relatively flat trail. We were given a poor map (there are great NPS maps on the posts along the carriage trails) and told to cross the main highway and go through this neighborhood to the trails. The little jaunt was straight up hill. By the time we got to the carriage roads everyone was drenching wet and upset. Then the course we were advised to take was straight up hill 75% of the way. What we learned later is there is a shuttle that will take riders and bikes out to the carriage trails (Eagle Lake). Then a nice gradual trail that goes to Jordan Pond house and the same shuttle can bring you back. It would have taken 3 minutes to tell us that. So in my opinion they need some customer service training. But the trails were a top 5 experience. It is worth doing. Even in the strenuous fashion.

“Very helpful for inexperienced bike riders!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2014

After spending the first day driving and hiking through Acadia, my husband and I decided to experience the park riding on the many carriage trails with bikes. The Bar Harbor Bike shop was extremely helpful, answering all our naive questions and never treated us like our questions were stupid. They made sure we were outfitted completely and gave us lessons on how to change the gears, allowing us to ride around the neighborhood making sure the seat was set right and that we had the right size bike. It was an overall great experience.

“Fast & Easy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2014

We came in early June and rented two bikes. We opted for the "comfort bikes" and they had us riding in a matter of minutes - so easy! We had to try a couple of times to find a good fit, but eventually got the right fit.

We rode the carriage roads and it was glorious. What they don't tell you, though, is that first hill to the carriage road access point is BRUTAL. We are casual city cyclists from Philly, and holy cow... that hill. Tarzan from BHB gave us some great advice to go counter-clockwise around Eagle Pond, and I'm glad we did.

After riding for three hours, we were pretty uncomfortable. We wished the seats tilted down more or were level - ours were tilted up a little and made our everything hurt.

They said that if we broke down or anything, they'd come out to fix us up. That was reassuring. We would definitely rent from here again.

“exercise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

Rented Bikes for 6 of us and had a ball. Park was closed to motor vehicles so we could bike without worry. I say you should be in shape of some sort. Lots of long hills to climb.
