The Opera House Cafe is one of the very best internet/coffee/tea/pastry places we have ever experienced. We were in Bar Harbor 14 days and began 7 mornings at the Opera House. It is a very relaxing place with very friendly people. The staff is very helpful in giving you hiking tips and providing that personal touch.

The CHOCOLATE Brownies and blueberry muffins were our favorites among several tempting selections. You must NOT miss these brownies. . all warm and gooey and chocolatey . . . they are beyond brownies!

The Opera House has a selection of coffees and teas (both regular and specialty) and smoothies, as well as other beverages. You can purchase a morning paper there or bring your own reading material.

Mount Desert Island has pockets where there is no phone reception, which can be frustrating. The cafe offers phone (at a reasonable charge) service for those without a cell phone (and there is excellent reception for your own cell phone).

The Opera House has the LARGEST amount of computers we have ever seen in an internet cafe. After getting coffee, just proceed from the front door to the large STOP sign. There is a computer there. Press the screen to print a number and then log in (with that number) on any of the many computers available. When you are finished with your e-mail/internet surfing, just log out and then go back to the STOP sign and press print for the charges for computer use. Pay at the front counter. The charges are very reasonable. Nothing could be easier and there are always some friendly folks available to help you should you experience a problem with log-in.

While we all know that we don't want to spend time on vacation getting our e-mail, for extended periods of vacation, it is very helpful. Many people come to the Opera House to book a hotel or bed and breakfast or any number of reservations. While we were in Bar Harbor, we had a serious family crisis. We did not have our laptop with us and the Opera House provided a perfect communication place for us to keep in touch with our family, while enjoying delicious coffee and pastries.

In busy Bar Harbor, The Opera House will give you a breath - a sigh of relief - a relaxing space . . . . . and those incredible chocolate brownies!
