“Great experience and would return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2012

We stayed 2 nights and were very happy with our accommodations. The location is great with easy walking access to the stores and restaurants and easy drive to Acadia. We will definitely stay there again as there is more of Acadia we would like to hike and kayaking to experience around the island. We enjoyed Paddy's. Great for couples.

Room Tip: Be aware that the ocean views begin about 1/2 way down the hotel so more of a harbor view than ocean...

My husband and I spent three nights in Bar Harbor celebrating his special birthday. The brand new West Street Hotel far exceeded our expectations. The location is perfect. It's on the edge of town so you can walk within a minute to the shops, but can get in and out of town without hitting traffic. Acadia is easily accessible and a quick drive. The hotel is located across from a working pier with a lobster pound, tour and fishing boats. The cost of a water front room was well worth it. It was great to sit on the balcony, watch the boats come and go and see the harbor at different times of the day.

The decor is lovely with an elegant nautical theme done in navy and cream colors from the beautiful lobby to the elevators, halls and guest rooms. It was subdued and relaxing. The beds are very comfortable and the room, with the balcony sliding door closed, totally quiet. We were amazed that we slept so well in a hotel! The bathrooms are also well appointed with a large walk in shower, modern sink and high end fixtures. I don't think I've ever been in a hotel with such attention to room lighting. Along with a night light, the bath has a motion sensor on it so the low level lighting turns on when you walk in the room. In addition to traditional lamps, there are small ceiling mounted spot lights in the room that can be used for indirect lighting. We appreciated and used the room's mini-fridge and room safe. We also made use of the guest pantry for water and ice. In the pantry, there is also a Keuring coffee machine, along with fruit available in the morning and cookies in the evening. The entire facility from the lobby to the rooms is immaculate. Free parking is right outside the door and couldn't be more convenient.

Access to the nearby Bar Harbor Club is a plus. Even though our weather was on the cool side, we wandered over and sat on a poolside lounge chair and enjoyed the waterfront and garden views.. At low tide, we walked across the sandbar right outside the club to Bar Island and took the relatively easy one mile hike to the top for great views of Bar Harbor and back to the hotel. We didn't make it to the hotel's roof top pool since we spent a lot of time at the park and our final day happened to be pouring rain.

We went to dinner at La Bella Vita restaurant across the street in the lobby of the Harborside Hotel. The food and service were so good, we ate there again the next night. I would highly recommend it if you enjoy Italian food. We are not big breakfast eaters but did find several bakeries within a few minutes walk of the hotel where we grabbed muffins and bagels. There are certainly many places close by to choose from.

All in all, we loved the hotel. I may sound like I am gushing, but it was an excellent experience, we hated to leave and we will definitely go back.

Room Tip: We loved our 4th floor, ocean front room. It was quiet and had a great view!

We checked in rather late so we did not expect to receive the welcome that we did. Our room was spacious and spotless. We couldn't ask for more. The pantry was stocked with water and coffee along with fresh fruit and in the evenings-cookies. The staff was knowledgeable about the area and all the local dining establishments, too. I have visited bar Harbor many times and stayed in many hotels and inns but nothing was quite like this. We are talking about doing this again next year even though it is a 12 hour ride.

In an area of utterly charming inns, it's tough to get me to love a conventional hotel, but WSH was a great experience. The location is perfect for exploring Bar Harbor or as a base for the hiking, biking and kayaking the island is famous for.

The water view rooms give you the sight of a working waterfront, but the soundproofing protects you from the early morning noises...or late night noise of revelers. The newness means everything is clean, functional...no musty smell as is common in this damp climate. Many thoughtful touches. More importantly, you don't feel nickeled and dimed to death as at other hotels. Free wifi, free coffee, tea and other Keurig products on every floor. Free laundry. Free rooftop pool. Free access to the Bar Harbor Club. Free cookies at night and apples during the day. A fully functional mini-frig in your room. Free parking.

Free dog biscuits and they allow small dogs...I don't know why they would not want the new place full of wet labs and newfies, but that may be the only obvious flaw in this fine hotel.

The staff were very friendly and helpful without being intrusive. HVAC was effective and reasonably quiet.

If you stay at WSH, try to time things so you can hike across the causeway to nearby Bar Island. You have to go and return well before high tide--which is posted in the lobby.

Room Tip: Get ocean view unless you're barely planning to use the room or on a tight budget.

Spent three nights at this brand new hotel in Bar Harbor, ME the last weekend of Sept. 2012. The hotel is right across the street from the harbor with great views of the water from the upper floors which have balconies. Paddy's Irsh Pub is attached to the hotel and offers a great variety of seafood and Irish menu items. Within short walking distance to dozens of places to eat and even more places to shop. Can't say enoug good things about the facilities and staff. You won't be sorry if you stay here !

My husband and I are from Texas and have never visited the State of Maine. We chose this hotel because of the reviews we read online. The reviews were accurate. This was a beautiful hotel!! The room was gorgeous and the hotel staff were fantastic. We were so delighted and pleased with our hotel selection. We will definitely come back.

This gorgeous hotel is perfectly situated downtown, right by the water. Loved the decor. Our room was spacious with a balcony overlooking the harbor. Loved the availability of bottled water, self-serve coffee, and apples in the am, cookies in the pm on each floor. Loved our free breakfast at Paddy's downstairs where we could order anything on the menu every morning. Loved using the pool at the Bar Harbor Club. Here are a few things they could work on: our bed, though comfortable, was too soft for our liking and we woke up stiff each am; the thermostat could only be lowered to 69 degrees and stopped blowing at night, which left the air in the room stuffy--we requested a fan, which helped but was noisy; the lighting in the bathroom was lousy for putting on makeup. Service could also be more on the ball--front desk attendants didn't seem well-trained.

Room Tip: Harbor View is the way to go, otherwise you'll have a view of the parking lot.
