“Mt Penobscot and Acadia Mountain”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

Hiled up to the top of Mt Penobscot from Jordans Pond (at the Bubbles end) - a steep climb but a sweeping view down the granite massif to islands, sea, sky that will remain with me for a lifetime. Matched only by the monochrome gleam of Somes Sound from Acadia Mountain - stunning. And we had both glorious views to urselves - blue skies, bowling winds, shimmering sea. Come in late October and have it all to yourself. Phenomenal.

“Bar Harbor and ocean trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

Arrived for a day trip on Royal Caribbeans "Enchantment of the Seas" out of Baltimore. Toured the town--which is always great. We had great weather and a great day. Walked the ocean trail along the coast and the sights were unbelievable. Easy walk, not very long trail, beautiful sights.

“Nice, Easy Walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

This is a hike that can only be done at low tide, as you have to walk across the sand to the island. Make sure you check the tide charts before going, and they are also posted at the start of the trail on Bar Island. You should have plenty of time though, if you catch it right, as the path stays free of water for quite a while, and it's not a very long hike. The walk across the sand to get to the island is about a half hour, and it can be quite breeze here. Depending on the weather and time of year, can be a bit chilly walking across, but the breeze stops once you get to the island and get on the path. This is a pretty easy hike, we saw a bunch of older couples going up and down with no problem. The paths are not well marked, but it's still quite easy to find your way. At one point, we weren't sure which way to go, and then we noticed there was an arrow carved in to a tree, and an arrow made of sticks on the ground. Simple! The views from the top are ok, nothing spectacular especially if you have been in Acadia. Even still, it's worth the trip up. There are a few places to sit and relax at the top, and it's peaceful, and a nice way to get a different view of Bar Harbor. There are no facilities on the island, so you may want to make a stop before heading across the sand bar.

“Something different”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

The walk across the sand bar makes this extra special and once on the Island there are some great views of Bar Harbor and the other islands. The trails aren't well marked, but the island isn't large so it's difficult to get lost.

“Must see during low tide”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

A must see to understand and appreciate why they call it Bar Harbor. Nice views and a easy trail. Takes 30-45 minutes and is only several blocks from town.
