“Better off downtown ”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2014

For the money you are better off downtown. The first room we were in was older and ok but the ocean view was blocked by a very large bush! (Cut that back) we also were next too the last room from the pool. Looking at the picture we were on opposite sides and it was a "hike" to get over there.
We changed rooms and the front desk clerk was defiantly annoyed. (You put a family the furthest away from the pool in July...) either way we ended up in the newest building next to the outdoor pool.
We have traveled a bit and if this was priced at $150, I would have given it a higher rating. However, even with the newer building, the shower door came off in my husbands hands and the ring on the shower head fell off after I switched the settings.
Breakfast was good and property was clean.
We ended up swinging back by after a stay at Sands beach to clean off the sand in the pool. Thanks for that!!

This is a beautiful establishment. The location overlooking the water is great. We recommend getting a room in the "new building" the higher the better. The view is amazing. Even though a hurricane came through and we lost electric for over 14 hours, the staff did their best to accommodate us. You can walk to Bar Harbor, about a mile, however there is a shuttle to town for free that runs about every 20-30 min. A really nice place to stay while in Bar Harbor.

Room Tip: Get a room in the new building, the higher the better..

We stayed in the one bedroom suite in the newer building at this facility. Rooms and bathrooms are good size and clean. This particular building has all rooms with balcony facing the ocean, air conditioning works great. Free continental breakfast in the morning is good and sufficient. This hotel is only about a mile from the main entrance to acadia national park which is big plus. I wish balcony facing the ocean was a tad larger.

Room Tip: Try to stay in the newer building named "Atlantic".

This is our third stay at this hotel. The other two were great. We haven't been here in 6 years, This was our anniversary trip. Our last to visits were on the 4th floor of the hotel. We wanted a better oceanview and not want to stare at the buildings below. We had admired the the building below us to the left. It seemed very close to the water. At that time, it was painted brown, since then, they have had new owners. When we first walked into the room - we went running to look at the view! The screen door came right off in our hands. Then we opened the side living room window to let in air and the whole entire glass of the window fell on my head. I was stuck balancing it on my head till my husband could manuver it back in. We had to keep it shut and locked for fear it would fall again. The mattress to our king bed sloped right to the center. We are not big people. I went to wash my hands and the towel rack came right off! Later we decided to set on the deck and at least 3 or more of the deck posts are rotted out! I feel the new owners have neglected the smaller buildings. I'm hoping the hotel rooms are still pretty nice. We let the front desk know and they asked if it was ok to have maintance come in while we were out. We went for dinner and when we came back everything was fixed. the next day the towel bar came right back off and the screen came right back out. We didn't touch the window. too scared. We stayed for 5 nights, you'd think they would of offered us another room! We always liked this hotel because of the free shuttle and location. There are other hotels on Eden street that offer the shuttle service. We will try one of those next time.

Dear Michelle G,

I am so sorry that you experienced some problems with your room, during your stay recently at the Atlantic Oceanside hotel. As soon as I saw your comments I asked our chief engineer to address them.

We replaced all the screen doors and have addressed the deck railing and the other room issues. As the new GM of the property I can assure you that guest service and satisfaction are my number one and two priorities.

I sincerely hope that you will return to the Atlantic Oceanside Hotel to enjoy our spectacular views once again.

I would like to extend to you a special offer to return.

In planning a trip to Bar Harbor, the Atlantic Oceanside is a wonderful hotel property. The view is truly spectacular. The rooms are spacious and clean; there is complimentary continental breakfast and a very good restaurant and bar. Friendly atmosphere and wait staff. The check-in process is efficient and all questions were answered, including recommendations for lunch, drinks etc. in both directions of the property. Both indoor and outdoor pool, well maintained. Definitely will keep this resort in mind when traveling to that part of Maine again.

Spacious rooms, decent continental breakfast and can also have made to order breakfast for additional charge, microwave and fridge in room, awesome balcony looking right out on the bay. TV should be larger. Room has in room safe, fairly modern, looks like it's been updated recently, beds were comfortable with lots of pillows. We stayed in double queen size bedroom with ocean view. My husband and I haven't been to Maine before so this was a great first experience. Flew into Bangor airport and this location is about 1 hour from airport by car. Definitely glad we chose to stay in Bar Harbor and not in Ellsworth. Ellsworth is about 30 minutes before you reach Bar Harbor and its just like a town on a main drag. Definitely not worth staying there when you can drive another 30 minutes and pay about the same price and be right on the bay. Rooms were clean, staff was friendly, ate dinner at the hotel restaurant - spendy but decent food. Fish and chips are highly recommended. Visitor center to Acadia National Park is about 3 minutes away from hotel so great location if you're going to tour the park. Shuttle service also located at hotel if needed. Would definitely stay here again if came back to Maine.

Room Tip: Doors are designed to slam shut so be prepared for some noise when people go in and out of rooms.

You really do get a full ocean view from these rooms and that with the fact they are beautiful and clean made us very satisfied with our stay here. The continental breakfast is sufficient and the service was there as well. Would definitely stay here again.
